Clinton vs. Obama

Recent polls have reported that Senator Obama is ahead of Senator Clinton by 10 percentage points. This news floored me, as I have been glued to the T.V. for months now, watching ALL of the debates, and last night was no different. It's clear to me that change CAN and will MOST come about by having an EXPERIENCED candidate represent the democratic party. I'm baffled to find out that so many people seem to be swept up in the rhetoric and eloquent speech of a respectable, yet inexperienced man who mostly just talks in generalities. I watched a speech he gave this weekend where he spoke about the need to reform our education system, in particular, the way the legislation "No Child Left Behind" gauges student achievement. I certainly agree that the education system is in need of a major overhaul, as constantly testing our children is not working. However, I was disappointed that Senator Obama simply acknowledged the need for change and did NOT lay out his plans FOR that change. . . How are you going to do it??? It's an important point people, and a theme that seems to be recurring in Senator Obama's speeches.

Let's cut through the rhetoric, and examine what he's REALLY saying, which doesn't seem to me, to be very much.

I think the fact that Obama is winning, in turn concludes the state of the American mood as of today. You can sense that people aren't happy, and we don't believe in neo-conservatism. This country is going to go one way or the other, depending on us. There is no question that the American people want to be emancipated from the establishment, unfortunately, there are doubts for how far our hope will last.

I've heard Clinton say this same thing in her campaign, but I don't really see how she is any more experienced than Obama. She was elected to the Senate in 2000, and he was elected to the Senate in 2004, so she had been in the Senate longer. But prior to that she never held elected office, while Obama was elected to the Illinois State Senate in 1996 and served until 2005. By my count, he has been in elected office 4 more years than she has, and he has won more elections than she has. And I would not say her husband's political experience really counts as her own.

Issuewatcher, how do you figure that she has more experience?
