Stinky, where do the dense budz come from??? U know the ones i am talking about.. the ones where your finger-tips hurt after breaking it up... those beautiful little pop-corn nugs... budz as thick and hard as a rock... u know, those budz.
Are these budz created from sheer growing mackness, do these budz come from special nutes, r these budz strain specific, how do i grow these budz Stinky?? Do u have any advice for getting those baby fresh pop corn rock nugz??
It would move u up to a level 25 on my "love for Stinky" meter;)

Dense buds are made from varieties that are known for making dense buds. Mostly indica varieties, since sativas are long and strung out from a hard night of partying. Also it helps if you do things right, especially during flowering.
Once again, sorry I'm not stinky.

HAHA thanks opie, I was just callin Stinky out cause i knew she would probably know.
So anyways i have these 2 big buds from Amsterdam, which im pretty sure is mostly indica. Its in 5 gallons of ocean forest and perlite, 400w HPS. I have been using foxfarm stuff on them. For bloom i have been using TigerBloom, BeastyBloomz, and ChaChing in the recomended doses. The plants are 5 weeks thru bloom now. The plants look very healthy, besides some yellowing bottom fan leafs, and the buds have good size they just feel sort of thin u know. I am hoping that they will thicken up soon

I think stinky says something like, give dem bitches time, they'll fatten up, most do.
Also the amount of light used directly affects bud size. More is always better within reason, and be sure to keep the lights as close to the plants as you can without burning them. This is one reason good venting is important.

Is a 400w HPS enough light to satify 2 LST'd big buds in 5 gallon pots??

It is enough, and much more than some people do. I'm just not sure if it's en ought to produce da dankness you speak of. You will get buds and your friends will be amazed at how clever you are. I would probably want to throw in some CFL's of the daylight or very cool variety, since you already have the reddish wavelength covered.

I cant grow the dankness with 400w HPS.... I knew i shoulda just went with the 600w it was only like 10 bucks more.... oh well at the time i was worried about ventilation and electric costs so whatever... maybee down the road ill pick up an addition 400w that should hopefully be able to handle the dankness.
Also i was thinking last night that when i bought my big bud seeds i only paid 35$ for em and they also threw in an extra 10, so they probably werent the best genetics in the world to begin with... Thanks for all ur help Opie
PS next time i call out Stinky I will be calling out for both Stinky and Opie
PS #2 I was gonna give u a thumbs up for ur rpofile but it looks like ur rep is bursting at the seems already so ill just send the to u :thumbsup:

400W HPS will do the job as long as its covering the right square footage. Do a search on Latewoods posts he did a formula for watts per square foot.

You want at least 50 watts per square foot to grow dense buds. So, if you limit your garden to eight square feet, you can get good results right now with the light you have.
Right after admitting that you made a mistake by buying the 400w instead of the 600w, you speculate that you might get another 400w. Why make the same mistake twice? Maybe you should think about getting a 600w for your next light.
Besides strain, environment, lighting and technique are what will destermine the "dankness" of your bud. You really need to start doing a lot of reading and studying. A good place to start right this minute would be to research "molasses". I think that there is a real informative thread in "Advanced Techniques" that should tell you all you need to know. Molasses is something you could start using right now to add weight to your buds.

Indica dominant strains are a place to start, then intense lighting, and then ample Phosphorous and Carbon during flower.
Combine these 3 things and you will maximize your bud density.

I cant grow the dankness with 400w HPS..
I didn't exactly mean that. You can grow big beautiful buds with a 400, but like some others say it's about the amount of light you use per square foot. A whole bunch will produce bigger buds than not a whole bunch. 2 plants under a 400 should do pretty good unless you veg them a long time and the foliage gets outside of that square footage recommended for a particular light. But again, it's square footage not number of plants. I can make 1 plant fill a warehouse.

4 plants under 400wHPS in a space no larger than 3x3 feet with plenty of head space= good use of that light, or 1 or 2 plants that have been trained in some manner to give continuous canopy.

Sounds about right to me. I'd go with the training.
