QUESTION on soilless medium

Would a soilless medium be better than soil assuming it dries out faster. For example if I had a mixture that would completely dry out in a day and I was able to water every other day using a five gallon bucket. I would use 50% perlite 25% peat and 25% sand. Would this increase yield without the risk of messing up like a hydro system? I would also use floragro 3 part nutrients. Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

THis is just a guess but I would say why not use a soil/medium recipe thats known to be succesful instead of taking a chance with designing your own?
I've heard that sand is pretty useless. I would think that you want your soil or medium to retain some moisture so that your roots have contact with nutrient rich moisture. Maybe it would work but I would go with time tested and true methods.

I mean I think I can keep my ph more level and not have to continuosly moniter them. And worry about PPM and a pump and the meticulous stuff.

I'm doing it now with 3:2 vermiculite: perlite. Its great but its a lot of trial and error with the concentrations of nutes at different stages of growth. I could also use any advice anyone has to offer.

Promix (peat) and perlite make a great medium and is used by many folk. It's lighter than soil and by making it even lighter with the added perlite you should get some great root growth. I prefer soiless since it has no nutrients in it, that way you can control nute concentration better.
