View Full Version : Dealing with Hermies.

Lets say you have nine female plants and one hermie. You catch the hermie right as you go into flower. Is it possible to keep a very close eye on the plant and cut off the male flowers as they grow, and keep the buds. If a good male flower inspection was done every day or two and all male flowers are destroyed would the plant be seedless.
Has anyone ever done this, does it work?
Anyone one know a good material for a hash screen?

I think you answer your own question in the first sentence. Would you risk the other eight for the sake of one?
If you have the space move & pick the nanners use it as your test smoke whatever, but if not IHMO its time to quote Spock & the needs of the many outweigh the desires of the one.

... or you could spray the hermie with Dutch Master's Reverse and then it wouldn't be a hermie anymore.

To answer your question. I have read alot about this and yes it is possible to do what you are asking. But it takes time and could damage the he/she. Plus you could also still end up with your fems getting pregnant. But it is possible but not really worth the effort. Thats just my opinion though.

If you ever use Reverse, you should use it along with Dutch Master's "Penetrator".

Thanks for the info, it was hypothetical so if I do get a hermie I will drag its ass down the highway then kick it some, then burn it, then leave it hanging in the town square.

So has anyone used this? "Reverse" and if so with what success?..It just might be the cure all for many hermies that come our way...
Thanks,

Hey Treetops
Did you get any seed from the hermied Hawaiian Snow? Had some of that excellent smoke intending to get the seeds when there back in stock. But if you did from what I have seen those seeds should gaurantee you females but may carry the hermie trait.
PC must look into this reverse I think weedhound has said she uses it on most plants to promote females. Not sure if I would risk the balance of my crop as in the original hypothesis, but it would certainly be a way to go to seperate the hermie and use that reverse stuff.

I started using Reverse this grow after one of my plants herming last grow. I think it might be too early to tell if it works, but I'm at the beginning of week 4 and I don't see any male flowers. Could just be that it didn't herm, but I didn't want to take any chances.

Jack, Reverse is meant as a prophylactic (it's the same science they use to make seedless watermelons) and should be applied on days one and ten of flower. On my last grow I used it at about four weeks into flower and it stopped the hermie dead it its tracks.

Thanks for the info PC am looking for it just now so that I have it for my next round of flowering. If I could get one I'd get the ladies some chastity belts, I'll also check out that penetrator you mention.

That's probably best, since the same company made both, but for those penny pinchers among us, any non ionic wetting agent will work fine (actually, "surfactant" [sp?]).
Wet Betty has a couple different kinds.

well im less or a penny pinches and more of a broke person, but any specific brand of surfactant? it was looking at one that said to be an additive to soap, wrong kind?

Looks like that would work fine, but I'm not sure. The waxy thing has me a little worried. If you put too much wax on your leaves they cannot use their stomata and will die.
For the ultimate in price, you can make your own with liquid dish soap. I'm not sure how this is done but I think you just add something like 1/2 tsp per gal. It supposedly works quite well. If you're interested, you ought to run it through a couple search engines. The best one by far is Ixquick Metasearch (http://www.ixquick.com). Best darn phone book I've ever used too.
If you consider something like SM50, or 423 EMS, or H2DS, or some short name with capitol letters and maybe a couple numbers, it is not as inexpensive as it seems. Keep in mind that all surfactants (wetting agents) are diluted at different strengths. That one that I can't remember the name of is made by mixing 5 parts solution to 1 part agent. Not nearly as inexpensive as initially perceived. I pointed that out after the hydro guy recommended it as a low cost alternative to Penetrator. He said, Oh I guess that's why we don't sell much of that.
