Howdy Y'all,

I did a google search for Torog and found a definition of the word Torog, which, when I thought up this handle,I thought that it was unique-I had no idea that it meant what it meant..but I think that it was in my sub-conscious from the '70's,when I read the Lord of the Rings books.

Torog
The Elvesā?? (http://www.glyphweb.com/arda/e/elves.html) name for those of Troll (http://www.glyphweb.com/arda/t/trolls.html)-kind
http://www.glyphweb.com/arda/_images/_spacer.gif
Dates: First recorded at the Nirnaeth Arnoediad (http://www.glyphweb.com/arda/n/nirnaeth.html) in I 471 (http://www.glyphweb.com/arda/chronicle.html?startyear=471&startage=1), but must predate this by some time. Still extant at the time of the War of the Ring (http://www.glyphweb.com/arda/w/warofthering.html) at the end of the Third Age (http://www.glyphweb.com/arda/t/thirdage.html) Divisions: Cave-trolls (http://www.glyphweb.com/arda/c/cavetrolls.html), Hill-trolls (http://www.glyphweb.com/arda/h/hilltrolls.html), Mountain-trolls (http://www.glyphweb.com/arda/m/mountaintrolls.html), Olog-hai (http://www.glyphweb.com/arda/o/ologhai.html), Snow-trolls (http://www.glyphweb.com/arda/s/snowtrolls.html), Stone-trolls (http://www.glyphweb.com/arda/s/stonetrolls.html) Meaning: Obscure1 (http://www.glyphweb.com/arda/t/torog.html#1) - Tolkien consistently translates this word as 'Troll (http://www.glyphweb.com/arda/t/trolls.html)' The Sindarin (http://www.glyphweb.com/arda/s/sindarin.html) word that Tolkien normally renders as 'troll (http://www.glyphweb.com/arda/t/trolls.html)' in his works. The derivation of this word is uncertain - it may be derived from older Elvish (http://www.glyphweb.com/arda/e/elvish.html) words (see note 1 (http://www.glyphweb.com/arda/t/torog.html#1) below) or perhaps imitates olog (http://www.glyphweb.com/arda/o/ologhai.html), which seems to be the comparative term in the Black Speech (http://www.glyphweb.com/arda/b/blackspeech.html).

Notes
1 The 'rog' element of torog is reminiscent of the same element in Balrog (http://www.glyphweb.com/arda/b/balrogs.html), and the two may share a derivation from rauko, 'demon (http://www.glyphweb.com/arda/d/demons.html)'. Following this, and hints from The Etymologies (in volume 5 of The History of Middle-earth, a possible source of the name would be taur rhaug, where taur means 'vast, mighty, overwhelming, awful', and rhaug is the origin of 'rog', 'demon (http://www.glyphweb.com/arda/d/demons.html)'. Hence - assuming this speculation has any basis in reality - the name 'torog' would mean 'mighty demon (http://www.glyphweb.com/arda/d/demons.html)'.

Wow..who knew..seems there's another Torog,at a pagan site..Lordy !

Plus..there are numerous links to various posts by me-or referring to me..kinda spooky !

Have a good one...Torog :D

I am big on symbolism and also how current events relates to our daily lives to invoke ponderous thought (something I thought most stoners did)

The plunger toilet thing symbolizes how women are degraded in our society(and even more in others)

the Goering thing is because just the other day the prison guard in charge of goering back in 45 admitted that he may have unwittingly assisted outsiders to smuggle the cyanide to goering,

The Gary Coleman pic.. well, heres a guy whos name just keeps popping up everywhere(Cali governors race, computer games, the news...

And I just love my little plastic Jesus
