Hello,
i recently put some seeds to sprout in rockwool cubes. Now, the roots begin to go outside the cube. Can i put them now in a bubbler system, or do i have to wait a while ? What quantity of ferts can i put into the water ( I use flora grow, bloom et bio ).
Any suggestions ?

Hello,

I kept my seedlings in a vermiculite perlite mixture until they had one to two inch roots coming out of their rockwool cubes.

I then placed them into my hydro setup (DWC). I set the water level so that it was about 1/2 inch to 1 inch below the bottom of the rockwool cube. I left the water level there until I could see roots growing out of the net pot into the water.

I gave the seedlings two weeks (aprox.) of nute free water. Then I started them off with a 1/4 strength mixture of nutes. I would strongly recommend following the directions on the back of your bottle. If they do not have a seedling mixture ratio take the smallest normal ratio they have and divide it.

Take care

Peace

Thank you student,
i'll follow your guidelines. Have you got ( or someone else ) pics of a 2 weeks seedling in rockwool cubes to compare with mine ? I think mine grow very slowly, slowlier than in dust, imo.

Howdy Student,

You said: "I then placed them into my hydro setup (DWC). I set the water level so that it was about 1/2 inch to 1 inch below the bottom of the rockwool cube. I left the water level there until I could see roots growing out of the net pot into the water."

I'm wondering..where did you set the water level, once the roots grew out of the net pot and reached the water ?

Have a good one...Torog

Hello,

fhydro- I will look around and see if I have any pics, I don't think so though. How big are your seedlings. Some plants will show very little growth for the first few weeks and then, Boom, they take off like no one's business.

Torog - once the roots dip into the nutrient solution, you can lower the water level to 1/2 - 1 inch below the net cups. This will encourage the roots to "stretch" into the water.

Take care

Hello Student,
the problem seems to be solved. I think my rockwool cubes were too basic, because not soaked enough in an acid solution before using. I made an other try with more care and it's going on good, better than the other that are in a bubbler system without any fert for the moment and look healthy now.
Send a pic as soon as i'm able.
