i am gonna be growing in a cabinet that is 29xlong,15,xdeep,60xhigh and need light edvice.I am not a begginer,i have alot of knowledge on growing and know alot its just im decideing on wether to go cfl or hps.The 150w hps puts out 16,000 and from what i heard thats good to grow about 3 plants but im really wanting to grow 4 with the best results. But if i was to get 2x200w cfl that put out 10,000 each in a vertical hanging position wouldnt i be doing better sense its more lumens and less heat. This grow will be in a cabinet and mylar will be all around the walls for reflection.I will also be rotateing the plants and making sure they get even lighting. So what would be a better choice getting a 150w hps air cooled reflector with glass lens or 2x200 watt or higher wattage in vertical hanging .

Lumens mean a lot, but that's not the only factor. The reason HPS lights are so much better than CFLs (at least for flowering) is because the color of the light is much different (around 5000 kelvins for the CFL; and 2100 for the HPS). There's also the issue of price; you could get almost 10 hps bulbs for the price of 2-200watt CFLs - minus the cost of the ballast of course. Also, if you decide to go with the CFLs, I would place them in a horizontal position because a lot more light would be getting to the plants.

Just one more thing - I would line the inside of the cabinet with mylar or paint it white; that would eliminate you having to rotate the plants for even lighting.

happy growing.

Two big CFLs are going to generate plenty of heat. And a 200w CFL that puts out 10000 lumens is way inefficient...almost 30 percent less efficient than a 23w CFL that puts out 1600 lumens.

And I can tell you now...you're not going to get four decent sized plants in a 29? x 15? floor space. That's 3 square feet...enough for 3 pretty small plants. If I were you, I 'd definitely go for two plants in that type of space...you've got about 14? x 15? for each plant. That, or a SCROG or SOG grow.

Have you thought about using CFLs and T5 lights? You can get single bulb 24? T5s pretty cheap, and daisy chain 3-4 of them. That will add a lot to a CFL grow.

I have thought about cfls and t5s but my main thing is price and the t5s are nice but not enough lumens and intensity.I dont really care about the electic bill all i want are the bigest yields i can get and i have seen some cfl grow and they seem to look good. But then again most expert grower recommend hps for dense buds but again right know its about cost. The cheapest hps i found is a 150w floralux ,its aair cooled with glass lens and its about 129$ with the flanges.Or the other light i might get is the 250w batwing hps. These is just a standard light but im thinking about getting some tempered glass from my local hydroponics store and glueing it to a board and placing the board below the light. With the shelve right below the light that be almost like a big selled in reflector and ill have a pc fan sucking out the hot air out of that space. This light will only be an extra 10$ and the glass will be like 15-20$ but will the result realy be that much better than a 150w hps.

Glass eats light.Tempered glass will only piss you off in the end result. All that hard work! To get back nothing for your efforts. Do the scrog. The outcome will be more of what you were expecting. Forget about the tempered glass. You would only have a need to use glass with an aircooled hood and large watt bulb, like the 1000.
