Ash?

A slightly noobish question, but after how long should i just toss the ash in a bowl away? Im asking because i keep on smoking from a bowl till theres nothing left, but i cant imagine that smoking ash is particularly potent or good for you? So should i finish the bowl as soon as theres no greenery left? Or consume it to the last molecule?

either when you stop getting smoke in your hits, or when the bowl stops catching fire, you'll end up breathing through the ash into your mouth if you start just hitting the ash.

You can tell REALLY easily when the bowl is ashed. The smoke should taste like smoke(not like pot smoke) and be really really harsh. It like burns the back of your throat the second you breathe it in.
If you're talking about the rez though, which is all the black sticky stuff left after you go through a couple bowls, that will get you pretty fucked up if you smoke it. The way i use to tell if my bowl is rezed up enough to smoke is if when I'm done with a bowl and i try to blow it out it sticks to the bowl and i have to pick it out.

It's up to you, you can try to smoke every last bit, but personally, I can't stand the nasty taste and usually dump it out even if there is still a small amount of bud left. I hate when you take a hit and inhale ash...blehh!

The better you break up your bud before packing the bowl the more evenly it will burn, this will be your best bet and preventing large clumps to go unburnt at the bottom. Maybe look into getting a decent grinder too.

The taste will tell you and sometimes the density of the smoke exhaled (not always) can also be a sign the bowl is done or almost done. If you didn't break it up or it got packed down hard there can be a small amount of unburned green underneath the ash.

Hopefully when you have a little more experience you can tell after you hit the bowl that you just hit something that didn't make you any higher too. That's always a good sign it's done unless you're so stoned you can't tell but that's why you'll learn that with some time under your belt.

When there is no more smoke coming from the bowl (inhaling), then obviously the bowl is done, or if it tastes really bad. That's a mix between resin and ash, then I'm done.

If you keep getting smoke even when it's ash, you probably have alot of shit in your downpipe.

There are different levels of this, depending on what kind of smoker you are.

If you're smoking for pleasure, and can afford to toss 1/4 of a bowl left, you shouldn't stop when you don't see more green, but stop when the ash begins to turn from deep black to light grey, and you'll get a slightly harsher taste of smoke.

If you're trying to get every last bit, but no res, you hit past the more charred taste of burning ganj, until you get no smoke.

If you're trying to get every last bit INCLUDING res, hold the lighter on the bowl for a more extended period of time, and you'll get the harshest (but still psychoactive) smoke until the res is burned up.

if the ash has some black in it, you might gat a cash hit out of it. once it's completely grey and dumps out of the bowl easily, it's cashed.

if i pack a bowl ill just hit it 2 or 3 times evenly(or until the green is gone).then get a knife and scrap the ashes out until u feel the weed then put a little more on top of the bowl. then smoke:jointsmile:

We call it cashing/cache-ing (little computer humor there, har.) And when it happens, the bowl is gone. It depends on all the variables said so far.. I think its pretty well covered.

I think it depends on your smoking habits really. I considered the bowl cashed when it no longer tastes good, but i don't pay for my weed, and probably would not be smoking that way if i did.

I think you're safe to say its time to put in in the ash tray when its all gray.

Not my play staion but its still cool, and its not a key bord its like a little blackberry key board, I want one, any way we were smoking playing with a friends christmas gift, and I was like "what". But a friend said sumthin worth while to the discusion and that is,

Ash is a good way to see if you are getting a quality smoke, if your ash is black then normaly you will taste a chemical type taste when smoking and usualy it is hard to keep lit in a Jay.

When ash is grey/ black you will usualy still have some taste problems however the Jay is easier to keep lit.

A white ash or dirty white ash is usaly what you look for, it stays lit and taste is at peak.

This is the key:
If its solid what so ever, u can smoke it. If its dust(ash) then u cannot smoke it. you will eat it. =)

and the way u tell is with ur pointer finger. u poke it. if its solid, smoke that shit. feel free to blow alittle too to blow the ash off and see if theres any goodies hidden underneath :thumbsup:
