If he wins a Grammy then I promise that I will NEVER buy another CD or MP3 EVER again. Its a joke that he's even been nominated.... he made some crappy song on Fruity Loops (my friend reproduced the same song in about 6 minutes), he thinks he's a gangster and he cant even talk properly. For those of you who have had the fortune of not hearing it heres a sample

Um ba in da ramby ba
Den I ge OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Mamby pamby dum de da
Dum dum OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

The only part of the song I could actually make out was "Superman that ho" which is when you come on a girls back and stick the duvet to her so it looks like she's got a cape. 8 year old girls around the country are singing this line. I might buy a copy of his album, copy it 1000000 times and give out free copies all over America just to bakrupt the talentless bastard. RIP the music industry

Yeah thats him..... I think he looks like the geek out of the Fresh Prince. "Carling" or something like that

I'm only 18 and I like REAL rap/hip hop. Preferably artists who I can understand. Soulja Boy speaks a language only he understands...

The only thing good about that song is the slew of absolutely TRAGIC spoof videos on YouTube.... some of them are so bad I didn't know whether to laugh or cry... so I cried... seriously just google 'crank that' and see all the ridiculous tripe that pops up.

Finally, even if its just over the internet, I am with people who hate the song as much as I do. I can't beleive this is what mainstream rap has come to, and I can't believe people actually listen to it thinking it is a song worth listening too.

It is seriously horrible and I bet soulja boy or whatever is laughing at all the idiots who bought his CD and like this song while he deposits another million into his bank account...or blows it on pointless gangsta stuff to display in his mansion.

Holy shit.... I just found out that Soulja Boy is telling his fans to buy at least three copies of his album and if people buy more then they will be on his "Top Friends" on his myspace! What a fucking idiot....is that even legal?

I hear ya 40oz.

I'm still listening to Fear of a Black Planet, Low End Theory, and The Predator... It was nice when hip hop as a genre still had something interesting to say...
The whole Southern rap genre kind of annoys me. My ex gave me a copy of Paul Wall The People's Champ, which is a neat album with some good beats and all, but one day I was listening to it and was just suddenly OVER it. The lyrics are... ehhh... not much. When you sit it next to shit that came out in the early 90s (1990 =release date for FOABP) and STILL has a contemporary political message, as well as SICK fucking beats, it pales in comparison. I think that's the difference between pop music and rap.

Souljah Boy is POP, not rap. It comes stamped with an expiration date right on the box. Or it SHOULD.

I'm telling you, soulja boy is a genius who realized a majority of people were stupid so he threw some bullshit into the market and using his gangsta image made it look cool enough to be picked up by mainstream record labels (who probably took some convincing to even sign him. He probably told them his about his quasi-social experiment that could get them all rich) and boom, millionaire over night, fed by people who like annoying songs as long as 'they gangsta'.

And I too miss real rap/hip-hop stinky attic. There is still some out there if you look hard enough...Atmosphere and Aseop rock for example.

hey stinky you shouldn't give up on southern hip hop. There is still plenty of good stuff out there, such as UGK (RIP Pimp C), devin the dude, outkast, goodie mob etc. A couple of months ago I saw del the funky homosapien and devin the dude share the stage. It was incredible. Made me want to be a hip hop star

I dont know, I think that stupid Superman song is worth bitching about...and I wouldn't even call it bitching, bitching is more like complaining with no hope of gaining anything we are mutually hating it.

I feel your pain guys fags always crank that song at my highschool in the halls and everyone yells "Turn that shit off!!". It seems mainstream lacks the ability to create more than 2 sentences of lyrics.

yeah i dunno about soulja boy, i mean hes only 16 so you gotta give him props and as a producer hes good but man does he ever have to work on those lyrics and maybe grow up a bit, his hit single "crank dat" is alright when your highly intoxicated. everyone has their own opinion and taste for music and i respect that but as far as im concerned he is just "ja boy", because there is no soul in those tunes haha

I have a new 9 yearold cousin (she was just adopted) and she got a nano for christmas. To be awesome, i got her a ton of songs for it, but she was super upset i wouldn't get her souljaboy. I'm not really concerned about her knowing what it means, i wasnt even really upset that it says "ho" a million times, because if you're nine you just think its something like "la" or "oh". But then it goes:

I'm Jocking On Yo Bitch Ass
And If We Get The Fightin
Then I'm Cocking On Your Bitch

ugh, i hope this is a passing fad. Seriously, how do people like this get record deals.

Maintream is the keyword here and is why I think the music industry has gone to complete shit. Quality does not matter any more, if it has a catchy beat and says bitch and hoe a thousand times it can sell. This is why you wont find a CD in my car or an mp3 on my computer that is from year 2000 or newer in the hip hop/rap categorie.

Stick with Led zeppelin, Pink Floyd, AC/DC lol the good old days (yea i know im only 20 so what i like music that is somewhat composed not thrown together and called music). I am not just downing on mainstream rap, rock has also become a thing of the past, there is no more screaming guitar solos, 45 second guitar loops with vocals hitting the same notes as the guitar with perfection, you just dont get real music any more.

soulja boy is garbage cant lie...but there is good rap music that has came out after the year 2000 you just have to stick with real true artists...ie Jay-z he had an awesome album this year that is borderline platinum if it didnt already cross the mark and also his old labelmate kanye west, both had very successful good albums, you just have to 'weed' through the bullshi and garbage lol...

I actually enjoy doing the soulja boy dance, its simple songs with simple beats that often become popular. If you hate Crank Dat, the rest of the songs on the album will drive you even more crazy! They are just words out of Crank Dat repeated over and over such as "pass it to arab, arab, arab" or "bathin apes, i got me some bathin apes" lol. But you gotta know that soulja boy is dancin all the way to the bank!
