View Full Version : Is there an etiquette to rating someones thread?

I was just wondering if the Modâ??s (or other posters), could offer any guidance on how and when to rate threads, and what criteria should be used when assessing them.

For example, are we supposed to give a â??thumbs upâ?? to any and all posts that we think are entertaining and/or informative, and a â??thumbs downâ?? to anything that doesnâ??t personally interest us?
Or, should we only ever give a â??thumbs downâ?? to posts that somehow contravene the â??spiritâ?? of cannabis culture and the site, and only ever give a â??thumbs upâ?? to something that is out-of-the-ordinary in terms of its contribution?

I only ask because personally I feel a little uncomfortable handing out â??negative repâ?? on a thread without giving a good reason, unless it was generally understood by everyone that this is how this feature is supposed to be used.

Iâ??d be interested to hear how everyone else feels about it, and how they use it, as I canâ??t help but think, as it stands at the moment, it has the potential to be the cause of some ill feeling on the site.

P.S. Can I also say â??Merry Christmas to you guys, youâ??re the best!â??
Iâ??ve had a word with â??the big cheeseâ?? and made sure youâ??ve all been moved to his â??Whoâ??s been good this yearâ?? list.
Though he did say anyone who left out a mince pie and a loaded bong could earn extra credits. :noel:

Just do what your comfortable with when rating. It doesn't matter what thread it is, if YOU feel it deserves a ...go for it; if not, don't. Likewise, if you don't care for a thread, give it a thumbs down or in your case....the cold shoulder I guess.

Have a good one!

that was a good question, I was wondering the same thing ... I've only rated a couple threads, a couple that I thought were a total waste of bandwidth :wtf:, and a really good informative thread ... that was my best guess, as to 'how and why' ...

;) Just my opinion, but I will rate something in the way that it has a effect on me. There is alot to learn on these boards and sometimes there may be a thread or post that really gets you thinking... so just go with what you feel.:D

I'd rate something down if I thought it was too high on the rating board for relevance.
