View Full Version : My first (successful) grow... (hopefully)

So last time I tried growing, I messed up after harvest and wasted a bunch of time. this time I don't wanna make that mistake.
So heres my setup...
5 ft x 2 ft closet with two overhead shelves
Mother on top shelf fully grown with 4 warm white fluoros on 24h/day
Clones/Seedlings on second shelf under same light setup (diff lights)
and then the bottom has my 1000w hps conversion, I use MH for veg, HPS for flower. I keep it cooled with a 6" fan and some ducting that draws air from the cool ground level and expells it at ceiling level outside of the growing area, and then another fan inside for air circ
I'm using a homemade hydro setup which is basically a storage container thats got 3 layers of duct tape all around it to prevent light getting in filled with water. The water I use usually has approximately 2mL of each of these: Main - Dyna-Grow, Supplements - Thrive Alive B-1, Maxicrop. I have my TDS and pH readers to make sure my nutes and pH are good. In the container are 2 foot long airstones placed diagonally with an 80 gallon pump with a splitter on it. In the top of the container (its like 3' x 1.5') I cut 4 6" holes and used some 6" netted pots with wicks to insert in the holes. My medium is 50/50 perlite/vermiculite.
I think I got all that... now for the questions:
1. How big should I let my babies get in the 6" pots before I let them flower? I don't want them to be too big for the containers.
2. I enjoy pruning, I find it relaxing. I like to prune too much probably, but I find that pruning lower branches that I don't want flowers on makes the plant much more hardy. Is there a point at which I can visibly tell that the pruning is hurting the plant?
3. If not, whats a good rule to go by with pruning?
4. How do I link pics?
I'm sure I'll think of more questions as I go along, but for now, any comments/suggestions/answers would be greatly appreciated.

hey dude just checkin out ya page...1: i would say depending on strain let em veg for bout 2 weeks after clones root fully...2: in my experience pruning is extremely damaging to the plant...3: pruning is last resort if you over veg and bud site are being blocked then i would suggest it but otherwise i would say dont cut any leaves of...4: go to "go advanced" write what u want then look for the attachment button towards the bottom of the page... then click browse, find the pic and ur set...

i thought i posted this before :wtf: im dumb
ill put more up once the lights go off
sorry bout the quality
the seeds were just from a bag.
the big one is just now 9" and its stem is like the size of a finger in that little 6" pot, and its roots are way beyond the borders of its container, but its seems to be doing fine, its been growing out of it for like a week.

Nice pics Esaron but you should really consider resizing your pictures to 800x600 or something like that. Uploading such large pictures not only uses up extra disk space, but each time someone downloads the picture it uses a lot of unnecessary bandwidth!

Step me through the resizing procedure? Is the setting on the camera? Before I could load pic.But none since the purchase of a new digital camera. If it's the camera,I'll figure it out.Just need to know.

Well there is an option on the camera itsself (most do) but you can also go to Resizr - Free Online Image & Photo Resize, Crop & Editing Software for MySpace, Hi5, Facebook (http://resizr.com/) and resize the picture there. Or you can upload to ImageShack® - Hosting (http://imageshack.us/) and resize that way. :0

thanks for the advice, ill set the pics down unless im asking for sexing or something. and i have to wait because my maintenance guy for my apartment complex has to do routine maintenance on my heater to make sure its working properly so none of my pipes burst.... and if he comes into a skunky haven, im sure he wont like it hehe
he'll be here sometime next week... so flowering for now is gonna be january 1st it looks like, cuz after hes done, i gotta go home for xmas.

and also, those ones arent clones, theyre just from some seeds from a bag
the setup i had is just a proposed setup, im gonna use one of the gals as a mother (god i hope that big one is a girl) and then start doing the cloning. for now im just using some bagseed

Yeah it should be in there. Just go through your menu, should be under "Quality" or "Resolution".

I couldn't figure out how to downsize my photos (please dont kill me :hippy: ). Here are some new pics of the plants on day 20, I just put them onto 12/12 and plan on switching to my bloom fert formula and switching out the 1000 MH with the 1000 HPS on the third of january.
I got a bad feeling that at least two, maybe three, are male. I know one is a girl, and man is she gonna be a killer. The big one (im pretty sure) is a male :( , but its got some potential for breeding, and Im thinkin I might just kill all the males but him and use my first lady as his bitch. they both have some pretty nice characteristics, and Im sure their seeds'll be sick. Any suggestions or comments you got, toss em my way, cuz as it is now, Im thinkin i might just have to wait till their done!
I ordered them from my least favorite to my favorite

ok so theyre making progress... And I'm pretty sure I only got 1 (2 if im lucky) female. Im just gonna clone her 2 weeks before I harvest and make 5 more of her and a mother. I have 2 UV enriched 4 ft. fluoros that I'm supplementing the 1K with, and I'm hoping that I notice a difference in trich formation cuz of the UV, but from what Ive read, UV effects are still pretty much speculative.
will post pics when Im sure of the sex and you can actually see some flower formation.

just this one female... i had 2 hermies sigh. anyway, she was doing great, but she got a little stressed when i went home for xmas and the damn hermies took all her water. she almost died! but i nursed her back and now she has a new problem: hopefully you can help. her leaves are yellowing which i thought that it was just the normal leaf nutrient siphoning to use all available nutes, but then i saw the necrosis. shes lost a hell of a lot of her leaves, but shes still doing ok. what should i do? i thought it was lack of nutes since i saw the yellowing first, but now i have no idea. I just rinsed her reservoir today and put new water with about 1200 tds. Any ideas of how to fix her? shes so close to being done, I just dont wanna lose her and have all the time and work go to waste.

ga, your fuji should have a disk with it. you can resize there or you can mess around on the camera itself. if its on your pc, right click on the pic and there should be an edit option or change size option also refresh thumbnail. nice plants by the way. sorry cant help much with hydro.
