I would like to hear from anyone who used both MH & HPS lights during the ENTIRE cycle. Meaning, when you planted the seeds you used a MH & HPS light, and when you harvested, you used a MH & HPS light.

What did you think? How differently did your plants react? How was your yield (potency, size of yield, etc)? Would or did you do it again.

Footnote: I understand the differences in the lights, I just wanted to hear examples from people who used both MH & HPS lights during the entire cycle...I guess for scientific purposes if anything.

Well nobody's done this or we need to give it some more time. I do know that it's best if you can use both lights. More MH during veg, and more HPS during bud is optimum. I'm wondering why you are limiting this to only HID lights though. It's all about the wavelength, not type of bulb.

I think you might have a hard time finding someone who starts seeds with two HID lights though.

I haven't tried it but even my MH on its own is to much for beanlings to early. If I had the space & cash I might try using both as I have read it is the best possible option for HID use. But I believe it would be a matter of balance rather than just equal amounts. For example if I was going for it I might try a 250W HPS with a 400W MH on either side for veg & the reverse for flowering. From the growth I have had using MH followed by HPS I would want a lot of headroom if I was going to use HPS from the begging of veg. Hopefully you will get someone who has tried it & they can give an experiment report. My idea will probably be wrong so no worries I won't be giving it a bash for a while. :)

One of the larger lighting companies - I think it's Sun - now sells a dual 600 watt light that uses two bulbs. I'm pretty sure that the intended use is one MH and one HPS. Probably if you went to SunlightSupply.com you can find their research on why they think the combo light is better. (At lest you'd think they would do some research before marketing the product.) Also, there was a recent thread here on CanCom that discusses this same subject. ...something about "what's better a 400w or 600w light" I don't remember the exact title of the thread but it was something to that effect.
