im looking at a small setup, one plant to start with.
Should i get a 42 watt cfl with 2700 lumens
or an HPS 100w with 9400 lumens.
i know the more lumens the better, but i read somewhere on here that you should do low lumens when the plant is starting to grow and when its ready for budding, high lumens.
also for a 1 plant setup should i just get a regular air filter or a carbon one will take out the smell?
thanks for your inputs,
Cherio

for some reason i cannot edit my posts...
Air filter or a carbon filter would be best for 2 plants?

how much space are you working with?
box or closet?
height restrictions?
light proof? Ventilated?
One plant?? Why only one? Are you preparing to start a little perpetual grow and will be growing six plants? Is this ongoing or one time? Who's gonna know? Who could possible see it?
Are you really gonna go through all this to grow only one plant?
In answer to your question though, there is a good little DIY scrubber if you search on DIY carbon scrubber. A plastic tub of kitty litter works well too. Smell however can be dealt with later, in about 10 weeks from now. There are priorities that must be dealt with first.
Have fun though. Read lots.

yes for height restrictions. doing a lst grow for that.
yes light proof, box. ventalated yes.
yes only for 1 plant. lols

I would get the hps, you can start your plantunder it without any problems and it will really pay off for flowering.
As for one plant, you can do that but use a feminized seed otherwise you are taking a big risk of wasting 4 to 6 weeks to grow a male.

That's a lot of work and $ for 4 grams.

If the cpu fan is 12volt you'll need an adapter that can plug into the wall. Cut the one end off (not the end that plugs into the wall) and splice the two wires to the fan wires.
You can get 120v fans from your local surplus store where you can also find cords w/ plugs. Just splice together.
As for the light, I would go for the hps. The increased yield may make it worth the trouble of one plant.

a power pack from radio shack or one from an old charger for a remote control car or what ever else you can fine just make sure that the output of power isn't to much over 12v. CPU fans are around 4-6v but work on 12+ for safty reasons is why I ststae stay below 12. They tend to explode when touched at 12+ volts.

grow more than one plant, this way if one turns out male you don't have to start all over. that would be a bitch, growing only one plant and then finding out its a male
