We just started using this type of clay in Ceramics not too long ago, is it safe for use as a pipe when fired?
Not that I would do such a thing in school.

you don't fire polymer clay. you put it in an oven at a med-high temp (depending on the type of polymer clay) for an extended period of time). it's almost 100% synthetic and would melt like plastic (which is what it is) if put to a flame. on the other hand, you can make a pipe from brass piping and just cover the metal (not the bowl) with polymer clay, bake it, paint it, finish it, smoke it. i have a 14" straight asian pipe made from brass and covered in polymer clay to look like wood. it's amazing and has interchangeable bowls and mouthpieces. plus people trip the fuck out when i bring it out to smoke from. good luck!
EDIT: oops, didn't see he was banned. underage kids... ;) they're so crafty!
