made a bowl out of a tire guage...safe?

This is not safe. With two exceptions, every elemental metal is almost exactly the same color, and most alloys are as well. You have to be sure what metal it is before you spark it... and almost everything contains aluminum, and impurities, in the modern age. You may not even see or smell any vapors.

i know aluminum is bad for you, but i've used a french horn mouthpiece as a bowl for years and i remember reading that the fire doesn't get hot enough for any of the metals in it to reach melting (or smoking) point and therefore won't release any bad shit into my lungs...
