My boyfriend is a respectable manager at a university. He has a CDL driver's license and he gets random drug tests probably about once a month or every other month. He's been working there for many years and he has never failed a test...until recently. He denied he did any drugs and the HR people seem to be cool and told him not to worry about it and that they will retest him. But doesn't that mean they'll just test the same urine sample? So it'll be positive anyway? I am nervous as hell as we need his income. My questions are: Can he lose his job for testing positive or do they have to offer help before they can fire him? How accurate is the urine test and can he keep on denying using drugs?

Thanks for reading :).

If he "truely" wasn't doing any drugs they will be able to tell with a GC/MS test on the sample. If he wasn't doing any drugs he should request they do that test on his specimen. Anybody can fire anybody for any reason. Most companies have a dept for drug addiction but if you talk to them before you get into trouble they'll usually tell you its just for show. They fire anyone testing positive. But it sounds like his company may be one of exeptions.Work with them and see where it takes you.

have him quit and try to reschedule a test. im pretty sure thats what will happen bc hes been loyal to this company by not failing in the past few years like you said. more things can fall into play but just cross your fingers and pray for the best. if you smoke, you should stop bc he will probably not want to smoke for a while, due to fear. id be paranoid if i were him but just try not to think about that stuff even though its trying to settle in your mind. do not let this get you down either. as bad as the first failure may sound, you guys can overcome this obstacle with careful planning. i just had a test and thats the only reason i am on this. sure i was very worried at times but i know from past experiences that problems come and go. some problems can be erased from existance if you, like i said, plan carefully. im sorry for the unfortunate event but i wish the best for you in the next coming days.

His CDL can be revoked with a positive drug test.

He has been smoking...he is just denying the fact that he has been. So I was just wondering how accurate urine tests are. I mean, could he argue that it's not 100% accurate?
