My third grow, just a few question's ...

Hey, This is my third grow and I have a few questions.

First off, my first 2 grows I started with 4 plants and only got 1 female both times, my question's are:

1.What can I do to up the chance of getting female's ?
2.What is a good soil mix to use, like what type of soil ?
3.My grow room is 45''L - 33''W - 53''H, I have four 4' florescent tubes hanging right above and I have the same on the wall's, a total of 12 4' tubes and im going to add a few CFL's when my plants get about 12'' in height....Question is, will this be enough light ?


Any help would be greatly appreciated, Thanks!

1. Nothing. It's all genetics, and you can't change that.
2. An expensive potting soil that doesn't have fertilizer already in it, mixed with about 20% perlite.
3. Sounds fine. Be sure and read up on lighting, about proper wavelengths for different stages of growth, and other stuff. Of course the more light the better, within reason. You can have just a few proper lights do the same thing as many bigger improper ones.

The reason I asked about how I can up the chances of getting a female is because a while back I read something about if you keep your grow room cooler it will help prduce a female, cause it causes less stress and some other things.

Nothing was said about forums, books, videos, etc. Which only leads one to assume that you heard it from a newbie grower on some random forum...which could very well have been this one. But you didn't specify. The experts here are top notch...but they're not telepathic.

Secondly: Opie was only telling you in his own roundabout way that this idea is a myth...and that no solid conclusions have been produced from it. Then, you went off the deep end calling people "faggot", "fucking tool", and so on. Opie wasn't attacking you, he was letting you know that this myth is bogus based on circumstantial evidence. You took it as an insult, and started acting childish. What kind of response did you expect after your immature tirade?

Lastly: There are plenty of expert growers on this forum, who actually enjoy sharing their knowledge/passion of the subject with others, because they want others to be able to succeed in harvesting a healthy, potent crop. And all anyone here will offer is advice, not guarantees. It's up to the reader to discern between the good advice and the not-so-good advice. Nobody here is arguing with you, because you've provided nothing substantial to argue about. Getting mad and calling people names isn't arguing, it's called "whining."

So, if you don't like the advice being offered...then feel free to pack up your generic questions, and go elsewhere. From what I've seen, and I've seen a lot, this is one of the most respected and knowledgeable forums available on the subject matter...and it does just fine without flamers like you trying to incite riots over some trivial shit.

LOL!!! This whole post has taken a turn for the worst. As an impartial observer, I think it was just a misunderstanding. The cough cough stuff was intended as an attempt at humor which was instantly taken offensively. NP with defending yourself, but he didn't outright call you an asshole. It was merely a movie quote. However, in your defense, I personally believe that the "happier" you make your plants, the better chances you have of getting what you want from them. That being good buds and high thc. When did I ever claim to be an expert? Or Opie for that matter? We claim to have experience, but you're the one labeling us "experts". And can't you make a logical post that doesn't contain obscenity or deluded fits of laughter? Makes reading it so much easier on the eyes, and makes you look much less like a babbling fool. Just a quick thought.

Wow, nuggrower thanks for the compliments. I never once tried to insinuate that I was an expert, but thank you very much for thinking so. I did not start out attacking you, only the myth. I love everybody until they give me a reason not to.

Mr. Clandestine and Rastaman, very, very well said. All of it. I mean really. It was a quote from a movie, actually several I think, but in particular Animal House. I just kinda assumed everybody who has a sense of humor would have watched that at least once in their life. I guess maybe nuggrower can't see R rated movies.

As far as the topic of this thread, it is a good one, but over done. I still am willing to learn. I would love to see this thread to get off the rants and onto the proof or side by side studies. I am always willing to change or try new things if someone shows my why it makes sense, not "I read it in a thread."

Oh... by the way, temps, soil bed moisture, N:P ratios in soil bed, and light wavelength are all factors that affect % gender expression but on a small scale don't expect to see any noticeable effect.
