okay, so the band im in (im the bass player) has our first gig on friday... basically, we went down to an open mic at a place called the moody blues last night, and as son as we walked in the manager offered us a gig on thursday, and we said yeah.. then he realised some1 is already playing then so now we have to do it on friday, and its gonna be hella busy.. and im shitting myself, lol, since its our first gig we're just gonna do covers of songs for a while, til we can start getting gigs in other places and stuff, but yeah, it should be cool.. its 4 days away and im shittin myself lol

btw az666, if u see this before friday then you should definately come down and have a look on friday night, we're playin 9 til 11 i think.. everyone will probably go back to a party somewhere afterwards, too.. anyway, im stoned, peace :D

The funny this is, we aint thought of a name yet.. Basically, my bro's mate (lets call him S :p) applied for a job at Ocean Air (up at the airport), and he put on his CV that he plays guitar.. This dude (B) that already worked at Ocean Air saw his CV and saw that he played guitar, so he told S that he plays the drums and has a band room and asked if he wanted to hook up some time for a jam, so S was like 'yeah, cool' but he didnt wanna go on his own lol so he asked my bro if he wanted to come, too.. So S, B and my bro met up occasionally for a jam, and then one day they asked 'C' (the guitarist from Coloured Room, i dunno if youve seen them) if he wanted to come up with them one day and have a jam, so C was like 'yeah, cool' and brought A's (A is the bass player from Coloured Room, lol) bass with him and they had a couple of jams.. but then C couldnt make it one day coz he needed to practice with his band (coloured room) so my bro asked me if I wanted to start learning the bass and go up for a jam with them, so I started learning the bass like 4 months ago, and starting jamming with them.. so basically we were just jamming once a week, and we decided that we'll try and get a gig for my 18th (March 4th)... Then this guy, 'J' (lol) asked my bro if he could meet up with their band and sing for them, so they met up and it went well, so we decided on my 18th we were gonna do a joint gig, probably at the Blue Note or something.. So, anyway, to cut a long story short, we were all at the Moody Blues on Sunday and the manager asked us if we wanted a gig on Thursday, but then changed it to Friday night, so thats why we havent got a name yet.. lol... man that was a long story... Oh yeah, the covers we do are stuff like Muse, Chili Peppers, Blink 182, Grandaddy, Radiohead, crap like that.. We might do a couple of our own tunes too, it depends if we can get them together by Friday... We gotta think of a name before then, too lol Peace

That's really cool. I used to play the saxophone in high school, and I was in this really cool jazz band... believe me, it'll be a whole new high playing in front of a crowd who likes you! Too bad I stopped, I used to love it...

Hey GHoST, need a sax player in your band? I can travel :D

I hope it all goes really well for ya, GHoST :D

I remember when I did my first DJing spot in Glastonbury - I was close to running out of the room screaming in terror!
But, once I got going, it was the most amazing high you could possibly imagine.
You'll be surprised how quickly you forget about the crowd as being scary :)

Don't get too blatted before going on-stage though, as nobody likes a drunken bass-player ;)

Prepare to be buzzin yer tits off for hours afterwards lol...I was on a high for about 3 days hehehe

well res, how long you back for? did you get that job?
The clock's still ticking dude
As for the job...well, the less said the better, I think;
Apart from the fact that I cannot stand up for any great length of time without my skeleton collapsing (at least, that's what it feels like), I had the beginings of a cold that has seen me looking like death warmed up since sunday.

I'm going to doctors in the morning, hopefully he'll prescribe lethal injection - it'd save alot of hassle, believe me

I haven't had a cup of tea since sunday, either...which is worse than no smoke for a month...

Don't learn any more covers and write as many songs as you can during your jams. Just write anything you can think of and experiment with it. You'll end up throwing away many bad songs, but you'll get a couple great ones in the process.

That's the advice I wish my band got.

Hey GHoSTy, glad the gig went okies - what a rush, init lol

Don't learn any more covers and write as many songs as you can during your jams..
Yeah, good advice...but even if you only do covers for the time being, try and put your own spin on them - you know, there's nothing worse than listening to renditions of old songs - mainly because people will compare YOUR BAND directly with the original band's efforts, geddit.
90% of the stuff that UB40 did were covers, but they put their own spin on it, and made each song sound fresh and new - few folks even knew that they were covers, init!

Keep it going, dude :D

Dude
You will intime find your feet and what was once nerves becomes your ability to feed off the crowds and have a better gig. Can take a while, but you'll get there man.
Dont forget being in a band is an excellent way to pick up ladies!!! Worked for me!

What bass you got? Take a look (one of) my babies. Made it myself.

funken monken, thats gorgeous! good work, bro!

this is the bass i have.. its not the best, but i didnt plan to be playin the bass for that long lol its an Ibanez GSR 200

cheers for the advice, guys.. like i said earlier, we had to do a load of covers for different reasons, mainly coz nobody planned for us to actually become a band and do gigs, it was just a bunch of guys jamming.. our guitarist, S, is moving to Australia in March, sadly.. but when he leaves our mate, F, is gonna join the band and we'll start writin stuff and takin it a bit more seriously then..
