Crew picking up litter along Florida highway finds freshly harvested marijuana - MSNBC Wire Services - MSNBC.com (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/22002863/)

TAMPA, Florida - The Florida Highway Patrol says anyone missing two big bags of marijuana can call their Tampa area office.

A crew picking up litter along the Interstate 4 highway Tuesday morning made an unusual find: two big plastic garbage bags stuffed with freshly harvested marijuana.

The 60 pounds (27 kilograms) of pot probably fell off or was thrown from a car on the interstate, Trooper Larry Coggins said.

I guess when I move down to FL I'll have to start a late night drive looking for bags of weed in late fall:jointsmile:

I just wonder how much they could of had to not notice 60lbs or what kind of situation you would have to be in to throw 60lbs out.

What a find that would have been:thumbsup:. Would you post an ad in the lost and found in local paper, or maybe Craigslist. Or "PARTY AT MY HOUSE"?? But they'll probably contact the highway patrol so they can get it back right?? I can just picture that one on the 'dumb crook news'. I hate to say it but there are people stupid enough to do it, "my boss is going to kill me". Can I have my weed back now officer?

DAMN IT DAMN IT DAMN IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You just don't know how pissed off I am right now!!!!!!

EDIT: Actually, it was closer to Plant City which is closer to the outskirts of Orlando than Tampa. Here's a better version of the story with some pics. I'm sure once it dried and trimmed it wouldn't be 60 pounds but I'm so pissed right now. It's like an unclaimed lottery ticket! For once though they cops didn't really overinflate the price (probably a little bit) like they normally do to sensationalize busts. They called it $54,000. It is probably less than that though but some police agencies would call this a $250,000 find.

Troopers Deal With Reefer Madness After Pot Find (http://www2.tbo.com/content/2007/nov/28/troopers-deal-reefer-madness-after-pot-find/?news-breaking)

It's just a matter of time before they figure out who did this if they have a record because all they have to do is lift prints from the garbage bags.

There not gonna waste fingerprinting on it. No person was murdered here. I know for a fact that unless the crime is very very serious, They won't bother to whip out the dust.
My friend had his door busted in and everything in his house was robbed. And the person shot & killed my friends dog when breaking in. He had lawyers in the family so if they could have fingerprinted, they would have.
Point being, They told him that unless this crime involved violence against "people", They just could not use the dust(whole separate unit).
The dust people are very busy at murder scenes in most places. They have no time for small stuff.

It was probably the crappy part of the plant with the buds that no one wants to actually trim.

They probably just wanted to get rid of it somehow.

You know for a fact they aren't going to spend time on it, why thank you Sheriff. Did you even bother reading the article? The Florida Highway Patrol took the time to take pictures of the pot on the back of one of their radio cars and then put the story out there for the news services to pick. Why would they do that? Probably, one, to toot their own horn, two to try to pick up some leads on the case, three to scare to public about the menace of marijuana as well as dangerous falling bags of marijuana. It's on the front page of the website for the Tampa Tribune and the NBC affliate and then made the main newswires. They set up a tip line to try to find leads, which by their own admission has lead to many prank calls. If they weren't interested in the case, why leak the story and then set up a tip line? If they are going to take the time to do these things, I don't think it is possible to say for a fact that they aren't going to take the time to try to fingerprint the garbage bags especially when they also think that this might be part of a grow operation. How long does it take to check for prints? Mere minutes. I've seen it done.

Dude, there's a war out there against pot smokers and we're not winning it, not in Florida anyway. To close your eyes to it really is quite naive.

^^^ that part made me laugh "oh man I lost my weed, can I come pick it up?" LOL

Anyone else notice how shitty the weed looked? It looks like someone pulled their males and ditched them on the side of the highway. 60 lbs of immature males=120lbs of manicured buds that the cops didnt find.

Do they really expect someone to call in and claim it? :S

It looks as though the coppers may have gotten some schwag, or maybe the plants just aren't mature, I dunno, LOL. But look at the size of the buds. Very small.

Guess those boys could make hash out of it, he, he, he...

I hope the prank calls keep up for a LONG time, LOL...
