im gonna give this a shot, but i wanted to know if anyone has ever seen this or tried it before, i got the idea after seeing the ice probe water chiller http://www.coolworksinc.com/iceprobe...um_chiller.htm

thats 100 bucks alone.....

there are other options like the mini fridge idea
A DIY water chiller setup - Marijuana Growing (http://www.rollitup.org/hydroponics-aeroponics/23028-diy-water-chiller-setup.html)

i have no personal experience with either one. because reservoir temps arent a problem for me. but it would be great to hear from anyone using either of these setups.

but this is my idea, its sorta a mix between both the ice probe and the mini fridge.

an engine oil cooler, or a transmission oil cooler. just search ebay for oil cooler. can be used either inside a mini fridge. or can have a thin fan blowing over the fins. you could probably just have if flowing through the cooler all by its self, and it will bring your reservoir temps down. but thats just the mechanic and the pot head getting together inside my brain...... its a universal tip usually, but alot of them allready have fittings on them, so its pretty easy.

I've seen too many ppl. bitch that the iceprobe is junk .

The gearhead inside my brain has been visualizing a old schhol brass heater core from an older model car , w/ a 115v dc. muffin fan secured to it using the hold downs that would come w/ the trans coolers you've been looking at , pump driven using a powerhead pump from a fishtank . I'm making one next summer in hopes of not having to do dirt anymore in the hotter weather .

Whatcha think ? A heater core has a larger capicity , and more rows / cores to pass thru = better chance / longer time to tryn lower temps. than a single core transcooler .

Check out Coolerguys.com offers cool PC solutions for the computer enthusiasts. CPU Coolers, Quiet Fans, Cables, Lian Li, Koolance, Computer Cases (http://www.coolerguys.com) for 115v ac muffin fans w/ cords and lotsa balls . They have 1 that moves 105 cfm for $19.00 w/ the cord .

If all else fails search "Shaggytodope" he has a thread w/ monster trees here , there's a link in that thread w/ killer prices on an res/aquarium chillers .

Peace
