my old comp has been running so slow that i thought it was time to get a new one, thats one of the reasons i haven't been on this great site very much over the last couple of months, but now i'm back up to speed and wondering why i didn't get a new system earlier, being back on line is now a joy and not a frustrating headbanging swearing at the comp experience.

yes it's got the dreaded vista but it seems ok , had a bit of trouble configuring my router as windows wouldn't reconise the software, i only went into pc world to get some ink but ended up buying a new comp and a half decent set of speakers and forgot to get the ink lol.

That's great and so exciting weedmaster! Congrats! Did you get one with all the bells and whistles?
Maybe next year or the year after I'm going to get a really good one! Hopefully by then, good laptops will be less expensive.

Cheers for the advise snow:thumbsup:
Chis i got the Compac SR5219 which is a HP, it seemed the best spec for the money £409 . the speakers are JBL Animal £20 with the discount are a steal.
I need a new computer too - i've got a TINY of all things. Bloody hell! Although it hasnt let me down. Sometimes it lags up abit, but the majority of the time it's fine. The net is fast too. But when it lags i hit it so the front has fallen off!

I'm just in the process of building one, but funds have run dry. I purchased a new CPU, RAM, and Mobo. My last machine was good but I blew it up oc-ing too much :(
CPU, C2D E6600, I've heard a lot of good things and that it is pretty good for OC.
RAM, OCZ PC2-6400 2GB DDR2 Gold XTC, yet again pretty good plus they look good.
MOBO, Gigabyte GA-P35C-DS3R, this one was a suggestion from a mate and it does sound pretty good.
If anyone has any suggestions on GPU's to get and possibly a PSU that would be reliable enough to run the machine then please say so. Obviously it has to be a realistic price. Not something like $18,000 cards like that external Nvidia one lol.

weedmaster,no problems, i swear down the amount of times people have had to pay or ive had to spend hours fixing one when the discs would have made it all ok. thats a pretty good machine looking at the spec. i would put some more ram in it, if you get the chance and cash. as vista zaps a load. but amd is the place to be, those chips are like work horses.
lol lip i used to have a tiny computer when i was a kid, before i really knew about computers. anywya the soundcard broke. so this massive asian guy came round to fix it from tiny and all he did was nick my hard drive and replace it with a smaller one. i mean wtf was that about.

Cool Im in the market for a new one and was palnning to go to laptop. My honey wants me to start traveling with him and it will much easier that trying to lug around a desk top.
Has anyone tried to downgrade one with Vista to XP? I have only messed with Vista a little but I dont like it at all seems you dont have as much control over it. IT specielst I know who use it hate it.

to downgrade a vista computer is really easy. make sure you have your vista os backed up because eventually you will need it. then just put in your xp disc, get it to boot from disc and install xp. it will format the hdd as it does it so vista will be removed.
as much as i personally dont like vista cus it is a mac os rip, alot of it specialists like to bitch because they like to bitch, i have been guilty of this myself.
the inital problems with it where there wehere like NO drivers for modems, printers and so forth, but its been almost a year and its all fine. the small update patchs that have been released have fixed the inital bugs, which are to be expected form any new os.
honestly if you take an hour or so to just get a tutorial guide or book to learn what you need to do, as it is visually alot different than xp. you will be fine and infaact it will be alot more rewarding than xp.
the only trouble is that you need a decent enough graphics card and enough ram, so that it can run smoothly with your programs as it is memory intesnive.

Lip i can see you now with a big joint in one hand and a can of stella in the other kicking fuck out of your pc whilst calling it all the names under the sun LOL.
Snow, i'm going to do the backup discs later, it takes 12 cd discs or 2 dvd discs, must be alot of shit to backup. i thought it could do with a bit more ram looking at the top spec pc's, what do you recommend?

well ideally you want ram that will match your own in speeds. its a bit hard to tell cus from the spec on the site, but there should be something in the literature about it. im pretty sure it will be ddr2 it just the speed that you need to check.
then i remembered the one good thing that the tech guys are good for
http://support.thetechguys.com/layout.aspx?ID={c6641bdb-d818-4baf-b08e-6ed04b832a02}&CatID={f83a6008-eb96-4455-a2eb-dbc0c148e43a}
so its ddr2 running at 5300
but your motherboard can support upto 6400.
you have four ram slots so its up to you.
i would advise for the most cost effective way to upgrade get a 1gb 5200 chip, leaving you with space to ad another later.
i checked ebuyer for you and they have
Corsair 1GB Kit (2x512MB) DDR2 667MHz/PC2-5400 Memory Non-ECC Unbuffered CL5 Lifetime Warranty - Ebuyer (http://www.ebuyer.com/product/92877)
but these would take up all your slots so
Corsair 1GB DDR2 675MHz/PC2-5400 XMS2 Memory Non-ECC Unbuffered CL4(4-4-4-12) Heat Spreader Lifetime Warranty - Ebuyer (http://www.ebuyer.com/product/74116)
is a better buy and you could get 2 and triple your ram.
ive put all the other ram that is avaliable that would work. so price is just the major factor. kingston, crucial and corsair are all wikid ram makes and reliable.
Crucial 1GB DIMM 240-pin DDR2 667 MHz PC2-5300 CL3 1.9V unbuffered non-ECC - Ebuyer (http://www.ebuyer.com/product/119271)
Kingston 1GB 667MHz/PC2-5400 DDR2 ECC Fully Buffered CL5 Dual Rank x8 - Ebuyer (http://www.ebuyer.com/product/129068)
Kingston 1GB DDR2 667MHz/PC2-5400 Memory Ecc Fully Buffered CL5 Intel Standard 1.8V - Ebuyer (http://www.ebuyer.com/product/119499)
so really its just a matter of price and taste. they should all work and drastically improve your pc.
hope this helps.
peace

ps burn it to dvd, less chance of fuck ups :)
your better off buying 2 single good quality dvds for this as it burns off the entire operating system, all the drivers, bios info etc.
all the internal programs that keep your pc working.
jkeep em safe too :)
there like 30-50 to buy from the tech guys
