Hi, I'm trying to grow hydroponics for the first and was wondering a few things. Are there any cheap nutrients I can buy that are simple to use? I'm on a tight budget and trying to buy 2 different fertilizers, one for initial growing 18-6 and a second for the flowering with 12-12. Also, this is kind of a stupid question but are the roots supposed to be under the water completely or partly showing? Can anyone help me out?

I recommend Fox Farm stuff. Grow big for veg and Tiger Bloom for bud.

Yes, it is best if some of the roots are under water. That way the plant is protected from power outages. However the key to big growth is get as much as the roots as possible into plain old air, as much of the time as possible.

Thanks I appreciate the advice a lot. I have a 400 watt HPS but it gets really hot, in the room, any suggestions for fluorescents and how many I'd need to grow 2 plants?

Its been my experience that plants produce a better yield and more dense buds using a HPS that using flouescents. Just keep the area vented with some type of exhaust fan or you will get stunted plants.

Also the Botinicare line is a nice organic nute to investigate if you want to discuss/compare to Fox Farm with a local hydro guru.

Good luck growing and keep the thread going with your experiences.....
