View Full Version : Why time seems to slow down when high

I think I've figured out why time slows down when your high. It's simply because when your high, and more importantly when you're enjoying the high, you are truly in the moment. There is no future, past, but rather a pool of consciousness that is just there and that is the present. When you're high, or when you are in a constant state of "superconsciousness" I.E. advanced practitioners of meditation and yoga, you become aware of the present moment and realize that is all there is. That's why colors are brighter and food taste better, because you can truly "taste" it and you can truly "see" it for the first time. I remember one of the first times I was high I came to the realization that being high is like seeing things for the first time, and it truly is because you are in a higher state of consciousness.
Think about it.

That theory has been said in so many different ways, and I believe it too. When I first theorized it, I thought of it as opening your third eye, or taking away the blind fold that life has given us. It let's you see the truth. We aren't on this planet to monopolize industries and be millionaires. We're here for a much greater cause. We're alive. We're living beings. We're life. We are the future, and the future is dictated by our choices in the present. People have evolved so far into corruption. The end is near.

Indeed... i also had the same realization after i started to smoke... for me the things had again the same "old shine" of our childhood things, when everything was more interesting... :stoned:

Your brain can receive more information with your cannabinoid receptors activated.

yeah...I think it's probably more scientific, but equally as interesting and fun.

Oh shit the first poster deserves an applause, really great way of putting it. While we're on the topic, me and a friend were blazed and were making hot pockets.. so I'm just sitting there swaying back and forth, playing air guitar and listening to music (there was none playing, but I was just so blitzed I could hear it, you dig?) and we were waiting for the microwave to get done.. and my friend, John, gets my attention and points to the timer. It says 3:50, and we both gasp. Then we look away, wait, what seems like 30 seconds, look back and it says 3:48; we gasp again. Time felt like it hit a dead stop, or atleast a slow groove, if you know what I mean. It was pretty funny, we were laughing our asses off and cursing the thing.
Oh yeah, and before you ask, those were the best hot pockets we ever had.
Peace
You bring up some good points, iris, and I agree with you. Nice post.

Yeah, I remember the first time I got high, I had that feeling of seeing everything for the first time again.. it lasted a few days, and I felt very peaceful and happy about everything for about a month afterward. I realized that it was the true antidepressant and the reason it was illegal was to keep people from realizing the potential of the herbal allies we have in this world, and to get everyone hooked on the pharmaco-industrial complex. Nowadays I am abstaining because I need to find some work... the only problem is, I just don't have enough drive to actually go out and get work... I think I suffer a chronic malnutrition of cannabinoids. :(

yep time seems to slow down but actually its your perception of things and the information yo can take that goes sky high. Also, you can get faster or more productive since your concentration is maxed out, for example, when I do the dishes on a high well Ido it quicker and better and without additional efforts but if do it with no high well its a real pain in the ass for a start and doin it as fast as I'm high is possible of course but again such a pain.

Think about it.I concur to this idea, and I'd like to expand it to state that it's also the reason that you forget what you just did, or what you were doing.
You're in the moment, and the more you're into that exact moment, the less you're into other moments, they don't concern you as much as the one you're enjoying NOW. I find that when I write lyrics when I'm really high, I have a difficult time because my entire focus is on *right now*, not what I did half a second ago, and not what I was looking to write half a second into the future.

No, that has to do with your cannbinoid receptors in the hippocampus which is resonpsible for Memory and the regulation of hunger.

I think it's because our brains get faster while we're high. In relation, time seems slow. :stoned:

i think its due to the fact that when we arent high everything is old, boring and has been seen. but when you are high none of that matters, you dont care that you have been seeing the same painting you look at for the past 15 years, you only care that the colors are amazing, and the lines so vivid. I think it is this "fresh" outlook that makes time seem slower because we are so amazed with the present (same thing said above just wording it they way i thought it to be). Ill compare it to being little... you remember when you were 5, and full of happiness, no matter where/what you were doing? remember how they days seemed soooooooooooooooooooo long? its the same thing. When your high you take in every little single moment as you do when your little.

That's a good point, it does remind you of when you are a kid. The days did seem so long back then. Now, a year goes by and you're like, what happened to the time?

I just got a cool job as a telemarketer, no drug test. Why abstain, there are jobs out there that are a fit with a stoner lifestyle. :hippy:And, there is always powdered urine, it is a stoners friend!!!!
I smoke daily, and have never felt more at peace or upbeat in my life. I love it! I agree that it is big business pharm. that are keeping the war on drugs active and alive.

Here's a fun one
Time DOES slow down when you're stoned, but amazingly the world doesn't seem to notice.

As a telemarketer, don't you have to deal with anger, hostility, hatred, loathing, and bile from the poor people whose privacy you invade? Seems like that would kill your buzz and eat away at the peaceful and upbeat feeiling you have.

I love getting stoned, and being in only the present. I find that I'm more patient, and I'm not in a hurry when I smoke my herb.

A few months back a few of my friends and I stumbled upon this idea. It's so familiar and yet we've all undoubtedly been thinking it for a long time without ever fully realizing its significance.
I've been smoking for 4 years now and I can remember for at least the first year, i spent a lot of my time high and getting anxious about what i'd have to do later that day/night or whatever. of course i eventually got to the point where i only cared about "the moment". i've since found that this transfers into my sober life on a constant, daily basis and while i may still be anxious or what have you at times, overall i lead a much more laid back lifestyle than ever before. such a great realization and such a positive impact on stress and the daily grunge. such a shame this plant is illegal.
all of this of course reminds me of a certain fungi, perhaps the greatest tool out there for reaching that higher level of consciousness.

You don't need a tool to enter that state. You already have it in you.

I'm not a huge science sorta guy, but i found an explanation from Einstein on relativity in simple terms, something like:
"Sit a man with a pretty girl for 2 minutes, it'll feel like an hour. Yet sit a man on a hot stove for 2 minutes, and it'll feel like an hour"
-That's relativity
Time is relative to the situation, all a clock does is measure a concept.
So if you stay in that state you explained for say 10 years, you'd have hypothetically 'aged' less than if you would have doing strenuous exercise
hope that makes sense

There is a small mistake in the quote from Einstein... what he said is:
"Sit a man with a pretty girl for an hour, it'll feel like 2 minutes. Yet sit a man on a hot stove for 2 minutes, and it'll feel like an hour"
-That's relativity
And so i would conclude:
"Sit a man with a pretty girl on a hot stove for 2 minutes, and it'll feel like 2 minutes." :D
