Simply. Yes Hps in fine for all stages. It would be better to use a Mh for seedlings and veging but Mh's burn out very easy. I lost two bulbs earlyer this year due too Power cuts in my area. Were as Hps are more robust.....
Hope it helps Drought..

I didn't know HPS was more robust, but now that you mention it, and looking back over the years, it seems you are right.
HPS can do all stages of growth, but it will make the plants stretch more, have less nodes, and grow a little slower.

I grew a couple recent crops with only my 400-watt HPS, did fine ... last crop, I bought one of these 'conversion' lamps, cheap enough,
Metal Halide 400 Watt Conversion (http://www.1000bulbs.com/Metal-Halide-400-Watt-Conversion/)
it works great, allows me to burn a MH bulb on a HPS ballast ... added bonus, for some reason, the 'conversion' MH puts out a bit more lumens than a standard MH lamp ...
as an aside, to be absolutely honest, I have seen NO difference between my high-dollar EYE Hortilux 400 vs a $9 HPS 400 replacement, so I replace bulbs frequently, since they are so cheap ...

Yeah, I've been thinking of trying that too, ever since you hipped me to 1000bulbs.com. 10 for the usual price of one sounds pretty good to me, even if the growth did suffer slightly, and you're saying it doesn't and I've got no reason to doubt you. Thanks again.
