Cannabis Compound Stops Spread of Breast Cancer: Medical Research Study

Cannabis cures cancer - how many more studies are needed?

More and more studies prove cannabis fights cancer

A compound of the marijuana plant may prevent aggressive breast cancers from spreading throughout the body, new research from the United States suggests. A team of researchers at the California Pacific Medical Center Research Institute say cannabis compound CBD (cannabidiol) could provide a non-toxic alternative to chemotherapy for cancer treatments. Previous research has shown the compound can block human brain cancers, and recent lab experiments have shown it may be able to do the same for breast cancer.

"Right now we have a limited range of options in treating aggressive forms of cancer. Those treatments, such as chemotherapy, can be effective but they can also be extremely toxic and difficult for patients," said researcher Dr. Sean McAllister in a release. "This compound offers the hope of a non-toxic therapy that could achieve the same results without any of the painful side effects."

CBD works by blocking the activity of gene Id-1, which is associated with metastasis -- the spread of cancer cells away from the original tumor site. The compound does not share marijuana's psychoactive properties.

"We know that Id-1 is a key regulator of the spread of breast cancer," said senior author Dr. Pierre-Yves Desprez in a release. "We also know that Id-1 has also been found at higher levels in other forms of cancer. So what is exciting about this study is that if CBD can inhibit Id-1 in breast cancer cells, then it may also prove effective at stopping the spread of cancer cells in other forms of the disease, such as colon and brain or prostate cancer."

Researchers stressed that they were not encouraging cancer patients to smoke pot, adding that it would be highly unlikely for patients to receive an effective concentration of the compound in that way. The team's findings were published in the journal Molecular Cancer Therapeutics.

I will tell my sister, but I already know there is no way in hell she would use even though breast cancer runs in my family. CPS doesn't care if you are using it for a medical reason, these laws need to change!

And Nailhead, when she's still got her mind "half-way blown" by the half dozen or so studies on breast cancer, show her the rest of my post. Give her the whole truth on cannabis as a medicine! - Granny:hippy:

I also read somewhere about some finished studies that say it slows/stops the grow of lung cancer, they tested it on mice and everything :P Wish I coulda been them mice for a bit lol. Anyways, do you know how your supposed to consume weed for these effects because it really doesn't seem right that smoking something can sstop lung cancer, maybe we should just start making lots of brownies?

Besides brownies and variations there of, any food with a high fat content works, making canna-butter or canna-oil give you all kinds of opportunities, then there's fire crackers, tinctures, extracts, green dragon..... oh heck! look at this and maybe bookmark and bump it! It's a real nice collection of a wide variety of recipes.

And speaking of brownies, I like to add hemp seed/ hemp nuts to my brownies. They taste like $19 a pound pine nuts and cost about $5 a pound at the local health food store! They are just as amazing in a nutritional sense as the plant is in a medical sense! You might find this interesting.

And don't forget vaping! Way easier on the lungs than smoking! There are also creams, oral sprays and under the tongue drops- but those aren't too available in the US. One of these days....

It's not that she isn't open to it, it's that despite medical marijuana laws she could loose custody of her kids. If it weren't for the terroristic acts by the DEA I would try to convince her to go legal. I just worry about her health, she's ok now, but in 10 years a lot can happen with someone's medical history, meanwhile laws will rarely change much in that same amount of time.

Sorry to break the news to you, but over ten years ago, about 11 now, california voters voted for medical marijuana laws to be enacted in the state...Ten years later there's collectives, and the battle is stronger than ever against the federal government to stop interfering with state issues..Not to mention there's now 12 states with medical marijuana laws...In ten years.

In 10 years a lot can change...and I look forward to the next 10 years for several other states to pass laws...
