Aluminum Foil

Mods do you think we could make a sticky telling people to not suggest using tinfoil as a bowl?
It seems like just another thing that could be used against cannabis if people are inhaling fumes from burnt aluminum while smoking.

No, i do not mean the same aluminum they make bowls from, i mean aluminum foil which is not pure aluminum and it is incredibly thin which makes it easy to burn. If you question whether or not aluminum foil gives off smoke, go take a flat sheet of aluminum foil and hold a lighter up to it, it will start to turn black and smoke.

um.... at the very most the only aluminum you will ever see in a s moking device would be a stem to an acrylic/metal bong....

the bowls themselves are made out of steel, brass or nickel...

and btw he's right, it's not healthy at all to smoke out of coke cans or aluminum foil bowls....

Ok, i researched it and found that tin foil is usually about 99.9% pure, the remaining one percent being other impurities that can burn off at a low temperature. So whoever wants to can smoke out of aluminum, but I still wont because ive seen tin foil thats been smoked out of and the entire outside and inside are singed black, it still seems like a bad idea IMHO. Also its temporary, ugly, and it heats up very quickly

edit: also if you smoke out of a soda can the ink burns on the outside and that is definatly bad for you. Thats why its so harsh

Just as an FYI, aluminum is one type of metal, and tin is another. Kitchen-use wrapping foil is made out of aluminum these days, not tin. Not sure why the term "tin foil" still gets used as if it's synonymous.

yea sorry, i pretty much use the terms tin foil, aluminum foil, and foil to refer to the same thing

Aluminum is a very soft and easily-oxidized metal. So is copper. NEVER smoke out of either. Aluminum oxide has been linked to Alzheimers disease, although this is something that is still under investigation. Copper is just straight up toxic.

The alloys and less easily oxidized metals used for bowls and pipes include stainless steel, brass, nickel, and I think I've even seen anodized aluminum alloy ones. These are safe because they have been treated to make the surface non-reactive.

I'm going to go start a thread in recreational about this. Anyone who would like to chime in on the subject come on over.

Okay enough with the other drug talk... I just got finished cleaning up that thread from 2004 to remove the same sort of thing. We do not discuss other drugs on canncom!!!
