Hi everybody,

I just read a book called "The Mood Cure". I learned a lot from it about supplements (as opposed to drugs) for depression and anxiety problems.

Some of the supplements suggested in the book include 5-HTP, GABA, and DLPA.

Does anybody have experience with these supplements? I would love to start a thread regarding non-cannabis ways to cope with these disorders, since they are so widespread and many of us can't use legally (or consistently, or conveniently).

I just started 5-HTP and I haven't made a verdict on it either way.

So... share?

I have read where the 5-htp does help. It has something to do with the seretonin levels in your brain.

i have had mild social anxeity and depression ever since i was in middle school and those were some tuff times.i am 23 years old and have been threw a lot of medication for depression and anxiety such as zoloft, paxil, and a few more.I have no benifits so icant buy these meds because they cost a grip so i looked into herbs. What i found was a herb that is called kava kava and it can be found at a nutrition store. On the bottle it reads may cause relaxation and relives stress and as far as i know there are no side effects. The first time i took it i felt a kinda daze and a mild headache i guess because i didnt take it with a meal which you a suppose to do.Ive been taking it on and off for a few weeks now and it does seem to work for stress and relaxation.

Re: kava.

I recently found out that Kava is fat-soluble, so it can be more effective to take it with a fat/alcohol preparation, rather than tea, which is how it is often sold in the US.

It's good to hear that it works... I tried the tea and it didn't do much for me, but I think I'm going to try it again based on what I read about it being fat-soluble and since your supplements worked for you. :)

5-htp seemed to help a little. I tried Kava once i dont think it did anything for me. Ive tried something called kratom and it worked really good for anxiety, i think its slightly addictive though
