Does anyone know about the high watt CFL's? Can you just give them straight power or is there some kind of conversion going on. I saw a 150w replacement bulb at Home Depot. I went to school for electrical many years ago before the introduction of CFL's. I know the smaller edison base ones have their own ballest, but is it the same for the mogul base models? If so then I can just build a socket/reflector my self for next to nothing right?

The ones at home depot need to have a ballast, where as the ones that you can "plug and play" are self-ballasted like the edison based versions. Most grow shops will have them pretty cheap ($30-50). I would suggest checking into the 125 CFL's. I would say from my reading they are the better route for various reasons. Hope that helps. Peace

Thanks. The guy at the store didn't seem to know. $30-50 isn't too bad. I'm willing to drop way more than that on my HPS. HTG turns out is only a couple hours ride from here so I might do a road trip.
