I'm having some minor surgery on Friday. I smoke weed every day, & was told this is really bad before going under anesthesia. I don't know when to stop, AND when I can start up again. I was told they'll have a real hard time bringing me out of the anesthesia. Has anyone else been through this?? Please help me!!
Also, HOW do you fall asleep without weed?? I don't want to die, you know?? I know how paranoid I sound, but I'm worried. I spoke to the nurse, but her son OD'ed, so I'm sure she ws being overly cautious. I was told I couldn't even have a regular cigarette the day of the surgery!! I KNOW I've done that before!!
Any advice would be very much appreciated. And today is the only day I'll be able to get online until possibly Thursday, so thanks so much in advance!!

To be honest, I'd be surprised to hear if anyone on this board was really qualified to answer this question.
What you need to do is find out who your anesthesiologist is going to be and give them a call. Be very blunt and honest with them about how much and how often you smoke and then follow their advice to the letter. Yes, maybe they'll be overly strict if they happen to be anti-marijuana, but it's far better to be safe than sorry.

Follow you doctor's orders --- you can survive without weed.
Good luck with your surgery!

But I don't know how I'm going to sleep without it. :S5:
I just spoke to my doctor. He said to probably stop tonight, but I keep telling myself that tomorrow night should be okay since one of the nurses told me 2 nights before is good. I can't smoke it the night I come home either.
I know that I can't get "expert medical advice" here, but I was wondering if anyone here had undergone anesthesia & what they did weed-wise. I'm kinda scared. Yet I don't want to stop smoking!! I will, but should I do it tonight or tomorrow? And seriously.... how do I sleep??

Well.. i never heard that weed interfered with anesthesies... good to know... anyway... i think there is a greater chance of you get a "profissional" answer by some doctor if you post it in the "Medicinal Cannabis and Health" sub-forum. There is several doctors who post there, so they may help you.
Anyway, good luck, and i hope that everything goes well to you.
My best wishes!

You can also survive without sleep for awhile. I think even if you stay awake for a whole night, you will sleep the next day or night when you are tired.
And I think Coelho is right --- post this in the medical forum and you will have a better chance at geting an informed response.

The best thing you can do regardless, is to stop smoking now until the operation is over. Regardless of whether it'll effect the anesthetic it is important that your body remains at its strongest for any operation.
Plus a small t break never hurt anyone :P

dude this mite sound a bit retarded but if you are having trouble sleeping have some nice turkey breasts and a cup of warm milk before bed.
they contain chemicals that make you sleepy.
chilled music
a bath.
exercise the morning before the night you want to sleep
in regards to the smoking i would just stop untill your op, as it just makes things less compicated. im not an anesthetic, but it could be that the chemicals they used to wake you are the ones they use to put you to sleep get lessened/magnified repectively due to the effect of the thc in your brain or possibly blood.
a break never hurt and once you awake and home youll be monged like a mo fo
hope your op goes well
peace
