I live in Cape Town, South Africa, a place which has STRONG summer winds which reach HIGH speeds. I am doing a patio grow, out doors.

I want to know how lethal wind can be, besides the obvious of running the chance of buds breaking off, I was thinking more along the lines of the plant losing trichomes and that desirable resin. Let me know...

Much thanks :>

Wind makes the plant grow more vigorously and thickens the stem, which will increase your yield capacity. Should be alright as long as the plants are too young. Maybe you could build a wind block around them until they get a few weeks old.

awesome. I think I'm going to build a small wind shelter soon.
I know what you mean about the stalks getting thick and strong. the plants aren't big, yet already, they have monster sized stalks.

here is my grow log: http://boards.cannabis.com/grow-log/138235-1st-grow-ak-47-a.html

I'll build the wind shelter soon, as they just started flowering. I'd rather be safe than sorry :)
At least they got nice and strong on their vegetative stage :D

Think about it this way. People have been growing weed in SA for a long time. It is a weed, it will survive. If the wind knocks your plant over, just think of it as a natural LST.
PS Its not the wind thats lethal its the debris.

lol, you can't lose trichomes to the wind... only if your whole plant blows away, haha...

LMAO!!!!!!!! if it spends its life in high wind, it will be adapted, but if you move it from a pc fan to outdoor winds and gusts, it wont be prepared.

put a few screens infront of the seedling to deflect and filter part of the wind, and remove them as it strenghtens

when my Doberman broke wind, it could bring tears to your eyes, no telling what it could do to a plant

Ask anyone who has seen the aftermath of a hurricane if wind can be bad for plant life.
