Well, thats what the Judge says at least :wtf:

"Judge Doesn't Buy That Marijuana Is A 'God-Given Right'

Defense attorney Ronald F. Stevens' presentation in New London Superior Court Thursday could have been called ??Marijuana 101.?

His client, 42-year-old Vernon Smith of Norwich, had pleaded guilty to two counts of possession of marijuana with intent to sell after police found him with more than 20 pounds of the drug earlier this year.

As a Rastafarian who believes that selling, trading and possessing marijuana is ??a God-given right,? Smith had asked his lawyer to argue his point of view in an attempt to reduce the state's recommended sentence of seven years in prison, suspended after 30 months served and three years probation."

As sad as the story is, I think he got off pretty fucking lucky. Imagine getting caught with 20 pounds with intent to distribute plus all of the paraphernalia and sales he's done, he'd be fucked in pretty much any American state. Your life would be over. At least he'll have a chance after his time's up; ya got nonviolent repeat offenders locked up for life over here.

That's actually unconstitutional. Freedom of religion my ass. But then again, US has strayed so far from what the framers intended, what the hell is the difference. I suppose that "harm to others" factor played a big part from what NorthBrook19 was saying. Still sucks though.

Cannabis is eminently God-given. Take away all of the cannabis in the world, and, what you have left is a lot of human-beings living in hell.

He did get off pretty easy. This where an informed jury can really help. If you get lucky enough to sit on a jury in a pot possession case just say not guilty. Its that easy. All we need is one person to sit on each jury and you can make a difference. Sooner or later they will get tired of pissing money away on pot possession trials that they can't win and the district attorney will quit prosecuting them.

So register to vote kiddies and sign up for jury duty. One person can have a positive impact.

I felt like jumping up and getting all crunk over the situation, but then I thought, damn, that would be stupid. So I decided not to and just post about my thought.
