Just got back from seeing this movie stoned as hell. It was pretty cool, the monster battles were good, and Beowulf himself was mad screwed

I really enjoyed this movie a lot, but I am not very familiar with the original Beowulf story. I think you are probably right that they butchered the original.

I think they introduced an idea of the old king and Beowulf being responsible for the monsters and some relationships with Grendel's mother that were not there in the original. It made for an intersting story (and good use of Angelina Jolie's CGI body map), but not even close to the original story (or original body), I think.

Also, the movie is set in Viking times, which was s lot of fun to watch, but I think the original oral story was before Vikings. Around the time of the Vikings, the story was written down from an older oral story, but it is not about Vikings.

Another movie that did this was Troy. They turned a story that has stood for 3000 years into a Hollywood production that butchered the story. Made for an exciting movie, but a real insult to literature. That's the way I felt, but some of my friends thought I was being a little ridiculous. I didn't get as worked up about Beowulf, but I think that is because I never read the original. If I did, I would probably be pissed.

Anyway, this is another fun movie that is an insult to literature. The really bad ones are the ones that are an insult, but aren't good movies either.

The 3D was cool!

It's wierd, bacasue the CGI is not all there yet. Some of the most simle things don't come off well -- like some one with a normal human face and smooth skin, looks fake. But the crazy stuff looks more realisitc --- like the dragons and monsters are amaizing. And the more craggy and hairy the faces get, the better they look.

But, even when the CGI wasn't as good as you would want, the 3D was awsome.

book wasnt that great. in my opinion the original is only considered great because it is one of the first english literary works in existence. it was one of the first ever stories translated into early english, and it really wasnt good except it was the first. besically it is all but invincible hero kills a few monsters, then dies. story structure really didnt exist at the time it was written and if you ask me, a fan of the genre, there was nothing exciting in the whole poem. nail gaiman wrote the script for the movie though and i really enjoy his books. movie looks like a piece of shit either way. see no country for old men instead

I was expecting something on the same caliber as The 300....not so at all! There were some good spots in the movie but all in all I wish I would have saved the money. Not worth $5 admission but when it comes on HBO, wtf........

Have a good one!

I might check this movie out sometime. It looks pretty cool but does remind me of 300 from the previews.

"I am, BEOWULF!" is just like, "This is, SPARTA!". but you can't judge on entire movie on a 3 second catch phrase from the TV previews.

then movie is nothing like the book. it only focuses on one part of the story which the book doesnt even cover.

read the book IMO!

The animation in Beowulf uses a technique that is different from 300, so the two look a little different. I actually like the animation in 300 better, but I think some of the shots would not have been possible without the techniques used in Beowulf.

I mentioned earlier that I didn't think Beowulf the movie followed the original story very closely, but I still liked it a lot. I ended up thinking about it for a long time after seeing it, which is one of the things I look for in a good movie.

i saw it after eatting 3 cookies (2.5g of bud), the movie seemed so intense, I loved but i have feeling that if I was straight i would not like the movie.

During the movie i felt like i was part of the scene were grendel was about to attack the castle, and i was one of the soldiers.
