as long as you block all the light from getting in, you could use anything.

Make sure you have good ventilation and circulation in there.I use a 4ft fish tank for cloning in.I also put some wallpaper, white side facing into the tank to light proof it and make it reflective inside.

I'm interested too... I've got a 55gal fishtank which i intend on using. I started a grow in it using a bucket with polystyrene floating in it and the light over it. (filling the tank didn't make sense cause i'd use ALOT more nutes, i reckon alot would go to waste when i change water). The plants seemed to like it.
Hope my 2cents helps. Ha ha ha

MBA - As you can see from the responses to your question, a lot of people have used aquariums successfully. Personally, I can't see any advantage to it.
Your aquarium is essentially nothing more than a glass box. In that respect, you can use it for a grow box/cab, but why bother? A wood cab or Rubbermaid box the same size would be much more suitable simply because you can make modifications to the plastic or wood but not to the glass. You could make a bad-ass terrarium in an aquarium, but mj isn't a terrarium plant. You want lots of air circulation around your mj plants, and aquariums aren't real suitable for that.
