In an Ebb& Flow system, once the roots have grown into clay pellets, past the 1" rockwool cubes, would it be okay to never have any moisture on the rockwool? flooding 3 times a day would hold too much moisture in the cube I would think... but just enough for hydroton.

would the roots in the rockwool cube become stems or something? hah.

The rockwool does not need flooding once you have root growth down into the clay media. Depending on your setup, there should be enough residual moisture in the air (humidity) left to keep the roots from drying.

yeah but if its just run over the cube it probably wouldnt suck that much water in anyway..rockwool absorbs alot when submerged but if water is just run over it, itll dry out pretty quick...not to mention rockwool is supposed to give your rootball plenty of air anyway even if it is watered..so i dont see a problem at all.

Gainesvillegreen: thank you for the info- i will stop the flood from reaching the rockwool cubes immediately :)

laidzeppelin: I just don't believe theres a good air/water ratio with rockwool... I know it can if you moisten it correctly, but I think that it tends to want get soggy, would be too hard for me to time the flood correctly to get JUST the right moisture in the cube, so not watering the cube at all seems like a better solution
