View Full Version : how many cfls? and how many hps?

hi!

well im new to growing and im gonna start in my closet...
i was wondering if any 1 would help me out and let me know how many lights i would need..
my closet is..
5 feet 6 in. wide
5 feet 4 in. in height
and 2 feet 2 in. in depth

i was thinking of starting out with cfls to veg and i wanted to use 42 watt cfls and i was wondering how many u think i would need for this space..

then i wanted to go with a 400 or 600 watt hps and was wondering which i would need..

any help would be apprecited

Well, 50w per square foot is kind of a rule of thumb, but the more the better.
So, 5x5=25 sq.ft. but let's go with 15 if you want some floort space. At 50w per sq.ft. that's 750w.
It's not common to light a space that big with CFL's, you're probably better off vegging under a 600w MH (Metal Halide) light and then switching to a 1000w HPS (High Pressure Sodium) for flowering. Or maybe just 600w HPS for flowering for a slightly smaller area.

Just my thoughts, I'm no expert, you should go to the FAQ section and read, read, read...

depends how many plants u gonna have. id say 2 of those bulbs per plant
