Panama Red and Acapulco Gold are two that we all know of, but I've never even met someone who has seen either strain.

One of my brothers friends said he knew someone who sold Acapulco Gold but that was back when I was getting some killer shit from California so I wasnt too interested. I think I have also seen it from a seed bank but who knows if its the real thing or just their version.

acapulco and columbian gold are NOT strains. they are called this the same reason that oil is refered to as black gold. they were the cash crop of that area of the world. they were however sativas, and many differant strains of sativa were refered to as gold.
alot of dealers back in the 70s would call there herb somthin just as a sales gimmik. with no idea where it actually came from.

Do you know this from experience or literature?
I read somewhere that Acapulco Gold was called that because it was grown in the mountains and actually had a gold tint. They talked about it in the show "Drug Years", where they interviewed someone about how they were the first American to find the gold weed. But that show is just for entertainment, so it's not necessarily fact.

when i just started smoking a little over a decade ago, my first dealer had some stuff he said was acapulco gold. and i believe it too.
i would still recognize it if i saw it, you cant mistake that smell. acapulco also has a distinct CREAMY taste. absolutely great i wish i could get some old school bud.

i know from experiance.
now a days yes you can buy seeds from places that have labeled them with these names. so now you can grow a strain labeled with the classic names. but that aint the same as we was smokin back in the 70s.

I imagine it would be quite weak since the strains in the 60's, 70s were noticably weaker. Acapulco Gold yesterday is to today just as a good dank.
