I use those yellow sticky fly traps. They work great for me.

I use the No-Pest strips, pretty well covers most insects, including gnats, whiteflies, and spidermites ... doesn't seem to bother spiders, but they eat the ones that try to run away

I would also second the No Pest Strips if your room isn't huge. Mine is like 10x5 , and I haven't seen a single bug yet. They also last for a couple months. I also used those sticky things, but my room is kinda small so I kept getting it stuck on me (gross) and I said forget it. I use them in the rest of my basement and they work great though. BUT the No Pest Strips also help defend against crawling bugs, so I would recommend them.

Ditto....
I also get trapped often by my hanging stickys.
The gnats do no harm, but the larve eat roots. peroxide for hydro, or mosquito plunk treated water for soil/soilless. If you need the hows of use w/these just ask.
imho....small grows do not apply here.

The only thing that I had no luck with no-pest strips with were thrips. Since the have a part of their life cycle in the soil, a dusting of diatomacious earth did the trick.

I personally suggest fire...lots and lots of fire.
