so all of my information is on my computer, but it has to be transferred to another computer. i have a USB external hard drive that has enough room to hold all the files i need, if i just drag the files onto the external hard drive, could i load them onto the other empty computer? thanks

Yea, you can. But dont expect it to work like a normal computer with a proper OS install. Another words dont do it. Just transfer the files you want to save like music, movies, and pictures.

If your other PC is empty no you cant drag anything onto it but presuming it has an operating system Windows or something or other, then yes your pc will see your your external hard drive as just that, another drive and you can drag and drop to your hearts content.
If you have any problems drop a question into the computer section I'm sure someone will be able to help.

If you're plugging it into a friends computer and transferring it to them, yes it will work. Just drag and drop or copy and paste the files to their new location. However, if it is like the others have said, where it's a new or formatted computer with no OS (Operating System, e.g Windows) then no. To be able to see, use, or have any function with those files you need an operating system installed.
By the way if you don't need the files on the external hard drive after transferring them just Cut and Paste rather than Copy and Paste, Cutting moves the files a lot faster.
