I am a daily smoker and have been for years. I've noticed that in the past few months I have developed a cough. It basically comes while I am talking and is usually accompanied by phlegm. Obviously I don't like it - does anybody else experience this? any insight would be appreciated. I am thinking about drastically cutting down my use becuase of this. again, any insight would be nice - thanks all.

As you would expect, my lungs were a mess! I got a little Vapor Bros Hands free and used it exclusively for 2 weeks. My cough was TOTALLY GONE! It was worth every penny I spent on it- and I'm low income. Plus, you also get a huge reduction in odor, a vape is more efficient (you use less pot), and the "duff" can be used to "improve" brownies! wow. thanks for the reply. I am so clueless about this.
Can you please tell me what a "vapor" is? is it easy to use, how much is it, etc. guess I can do online research but I'd rather hear from someone who actually uses it! Just want more details if you don't mind. thanks so much!

I don't smoke ciggies :(
But I love the bud. However, I don't want to risk my health for it.....

In my experiences I have found that when I was younger and was only buying middies and regs that I would often get a cough after periods of heavy smoking. I believe this is due to the fact that one must smoke a great deal of cannabis to achieve that high when the quality is low, and the quantity smoked also must increase as your tolerance does. However recently I've stopped smoking regs and have been strictly smoking quality buds in which a few hits create a sufficient high, rather than 3-5 bowls. Basically what I'm saying is try buying higher quality cannabis and see if smoking a lesser quantity diminishes and eliminates coughing. It worked for me and it might work for you.

Higher quality = less carcinogens in the throat and longs due to a smaller amount being smoked.
Low quality = a large amount smoked along with a great deal more harmful materials being inhaled, thus causing irritation in the throat.

Or maybe you have a cold :)

are you exercising? if not, you could avoid a lot of complication dealing with smoking regimens or buying new equipment. A vaporizer will definitely help a cough (I have a vaporWarez), but for your own sake and for simplicity's sake, just get exercise every day. I have absolutely no cough, during smoking and otherwise, as long as I get a sweat on semi-daily. And I"m someone who prefers smoke, not vapor. I do an elliptical, pushups, situps, but you don't have to have equipment; you could just go on brisk walks (which are doubly fun when you punctuate it with a outdoor smoke session somewhere);)

It's awful to be talking to someone, such as a parent, and have to clear your throat of phlegm. My 'rents always suspected I was a smoker because of it.

Thanks all for the replies. Swanman, I think you have a real point. I had been smoking crap for 3 years! Not good quality for sure and thus had to smoke large amounts. that may very well be the cause of it. I admit, I am a heavy smoker. So, recently I have cut back on all my daytime smoking as well. Also have a new source now who is providing much better quality as well so a few hits are sufficient now. Let's see if my cutting back on amount smoked works.
Burnable, I do exercise. 5 hours a week of yoga, pilates, cardio, and weight lifting! It's helped me in so many ways. I hadn't worked out in 10 years and decided it was time to get back into the gym and get into the best shape possible before I turn 30 in a couple of months!
I may look into that vapor if nothing works. Seems like a good option, but fucking expensive!!!

I got mine for $130, the same one goes for ~$200 in headshops, so I'd hold out for the better deal. The high is different, often milder, but you can use the leftovers to bake with (smells awful). If you do have a vape, you'll probably want to smoke now and then, which probably won't effect you too much, especially if you're smoking better stuff

Smoking less blunts will help, the tobacco leaf can rip havoc on your lungs. My buddy gets respiratory infections if he smokes too many.
Fewer joints would also help, given they are the same type of material (unless you use cellulose but I don't like those papers that much myself).

Just stick to glass or get a vaporizer if you can afford it. Keep the bong for when you have friends over and your pipes for on the go or a quickie.

how long have you had your cough? and how much phlegm is there in a normal day? oh and how long have you been smoking?

haha, just some questions to see how serious it is!

I'm back. I've had the cough for months now. I've been a daily smoker for 3-4 yrears now. And it only comes when I'm having a conversation (so, continuous talking, not just one sentence). I feel phlegm coming up and feel the need to cough. It's simply gross. I might go for the vape finally. Please anybody who owns one, talk more about it and your experiences with it. Is the high really a lot milder? Thanks

Im a heavy user, and an everyday user. I dont have a cough - sometimes i'll get a tickle and cough up a bit of phlem, but thats not often.

Maybe im lucky - my chest has been getting better and better since i quit the cigs - weed doesnt adversely effect me like that - maybe my years and years of 40 ciggies a day made my lungs stronger - or less receptive.

yeah it pretty much is milder. some say they prefer it because it is more energetic with less burn-out. I can achieve a sufficient plateau if I vape enough, but it's no more efficient than smoking. Honestly, normally after I vape some, I feel the need for more, and usually end up firing a bowl. But if I had plenty of time, I could vape all day and not ever smoke really.

Vapes come in especially handy if you're doing it for medical purposes, or in your case, a gentler time for the lungs. If your cough really bothers you, and you're exercising enough, a vape is probably a good decision. You'll feel the need to smoke anyway, and you can get away with smoking occasionally and still avoid chronic cough. Since you have the persistent cough, I say go for it. Get a vape that allows you to put the whip on the heat element and it will stay there. Usually it's phrased by "hands-free" or "glass-on-glass." Like I said before, those ones usually cost $100-$200

I'm a busy mom of two so "energetic and less burn-out" sounds good to me!! I basically don't want to give up smoking b/c I love it but don't want to compromise my health either. Uggh!
I wouldn't mind more insight though on people owning a vape and their experiences with it!! Thanks!!!!!

i have been smokeing now for a year, and in the last month ive also gotten a cough, now i have a cold, so im wondering if it was just a really long and minor infection which lead to my cold now-that being said, i live in toronto and the weather is going bat shit insane.

my big worry is weezing, i have no trouble breathing in the slightest, but when i inhale sometimes i hear a slight weeze, but only when i inhale in a particular way, so maybe im just over reacting... who knows, ill stick to my vapourizer for a while...

I have the same problem.

I've been smoking a lot over the holidays and just recently (3 days ago) I've developed a steady dry cough. Its been a big annoyance when I'm trying to sleep. :(

Hey Granny whats your opinion on homemade Lightbulb vaps? I made one a while back but I'm too afraid to use it.
