So I finally took my test today. I passed a at home test 2 weeks ago, however im worried that the test I took today may be one of the 20 or 15 ng/mL ones. It was a split medtox 596 Panel that was sent to the labs. I am 6'3 and 180 pounds with a fairly fast metabolism. I smoked a few times a day for awhile then was once a week for a few weeks before i quit 5 and a 1/2 weeks ago. Is there any way that if it were the 20 and not the 50 that I would pass?? Also anyone know what the specs are for medtox? Thanks for the help!!

I am not an expert with testing but I can say with certainty that you have passed as a result of five weeks of abstinence. You stayed away from herb long enough to pass test, now it is time to smoke one up. That is, if you plan on smoking still.

yeah im not worried at all for the 50 ng/mL one, im just worried that it wouldent have been enough time for the 20 or 15. Any idea how long those will track for??

Maybe we can get FBR to reply on this topic. He does his homework and seems up to date on testing practices. I still say that five and half weeks is ample time to be pissing clean for any test. I may be wrong but I doubt it.

All the labs are pretty much standard. They'll use the regular old dip strips like you can buy at a store and dip first. If they show up positive there then they move on the GC and test it further.

yeah but they placed my samples into a medtox sealed bag which looked like it was about to get mailed out. Do they normally do that if they are going to test in house?

Well 5 and 1/2 weeks is going to be long enough for many people but not all so Smokey there is no need to make certainties. Some people may take as long as 60 days before they can pass a test, depending on their body and smoking history. Morg never even gives his stats so there is no way you can be certain he is going to pass after 5 weeks except for the fact he used a home test.

Morg, you have probably done some research and heard the cutoff terms of 50 and 20 and 15 and 10 thrown around. Many people don't understand this and begin to think that their sample is special and will get massive scrutiny. Let's make sure you understand this. Most lab tests involve running a sample through immunoassay first. Immunoassay will look for 31 metabolitesd of THC and most use the cutoff of 50 ng/ml. Then all non-negative sample will go to GC/MS where they look for only one metabolite of THC, THC-COOH, and if they used the 50 ng/ml cutoff, then they will use the confirmation level of 15 ng/ml on GC/MS. So most of the time 31 metabolites at 50 ng/ml is about the same as the 1 main metabolite at 15 ng/ml. Some employers or whoever is testing you will use 20 ng/ml cutoff on immunoassay and 10 ng/ml confirmation on GC/MS.

Next, most places are only a collection site. Depending on how big of a city or region you live in, there will be one lab that serves several collection sites because it just isn't economically sound to put testing machines in every collection site. So the sample is collected, sealed up to retain chain of custody, then sent off. Some employers may opt for instant testing and then non negatives are sent off for further testing but this doesn't happen very often. If you didn't see an instant test given, your sample was more than likely sent to another site for testing.

Now, to the home test and 2 week interval. I have never seen a home test that tested at anything but 50 ng/ml. Home or instant testing uses immunoassay technology. If you pass a home test, you should pass the real test. Most people are subject to the 50 ng/ml cutoff on immunoassay and 15 ng/ml on GC/MS. 1 of about 100 don't when they pass a home test but nothing is certain if you smoke and you are subject to drug testing. Just in case you think you are going to be subject to the 20 ng/ml immunoassay cutoff simple math comes into play. The half-life of THC can range between 0.8 days and 10 days, depending on the person. You took the home test 2 weeks ago so in a worst case scenario your half-life would be 10 days and 14 days would be about 1.4 half-life. So if you passed your home test you have to be at 49.999 ng/ml or less. 10 days later you would have to be at 24.9995 or less and so on and so on. If you passed your home test 2 weeks before the real thing, chances are you could even beat the lower cutoffs, which you are probably not subject to even.

Killerweed, when the labs do full testing on a sample and perform immunoassay tests on the sample, they use machines that use immunoassay technology. They don't use dip sticks and then send non negatives through a GC/MS machine. They only time they will use the instant sticks is if the do it right in front of you.

Fakeboobs thank you so much for your help!! So i was a heavy smoker for very long and passed the at home test like 2 and a half weeks after i had quit completely. A few weeks before the full out quit I was only smoking once a week to ween into my full abstinence. Dont want to rush into anything, you know?:D And the test line was very bold on the at home test (one of the pot specific ones from wallgreens). Im tall, young and have a fairly fast metabolism so I was hoping that by some chance I would be able to pass the home test just to ease my mind (and that was the first piss of the day). So I am crossing my fingers and hoping that I passed because I just moved out here (to long island) specifically for this job and am completely fucked if I dont get it! Thanks for the help guys and Ill keep it updated

You are fortunate to test clean that soon with your smoking history. Most aren't that lucky.
Good luck to you.

morg if your thc test line was bold then you are good to go.Mine is usually about half as bright as the control line.

Thanks FBR I was uninformed about the lab test procedures.I had talked to one of the collection techs once and he had said they just use test strips at the labs.

Killerweed, or any one else, if you want to see an image of these machines you can go to siemens dot com/diagnostics then click on Products, then chemistry/immunoassay, then look at the menu of machines. It's kind of like the evil machines from Terminator 3: Rise of the machines. I have tried to link it before but the links do weird things. You can also do it from dadebehring dotcom/edbna2/ebusiness/company/overview.jsp then products then drug testing diagnostics then look at the menu of machines on the right. Note the placement of the dot coms.

There are other companies that make them and other immunoassay testing methods other than EMIT.

If you don't hear anything by today thats probably a good thing.

Oh for real? I figured the positive results took longer to figure out cause they have to do more tests on it and the negs are quick.

They do the quick test first and if it comes up negetive they don't go to GC.It varies some as to how soon they get the results back. Depends on whether there is a lab in your area or whether it has to be shipped out but usually 3 days is the max.Usually an MRO would contact you within 2 or 3 days to ask you if you were taking any prescription meds or why you would show positive. With a DOT type job they always get the results back within 3 days.
