I want to grow to see if I can and get some good bud if I'm lucky.

Here is what I am working with.
1. closet -- 28" deep x 32" wide 74" from closet floor to ceiling and 45" from shelf to closet floor.
Is this space sufficient?

2. light -- I have this spot light kind of light fixture that I took from my snake tank and the light socket in the ceiling.
Is this sufficient? If so what kind of bulb should I use?

I've got soil, a small pot and a large pot. My seeds are currently germinating. I just want to know if what I have is sufficient for a decent grow or am i waisting my time. Thanks in advance.

you have enough space, stick an air purifier in there too, keeps the air in a small room fresh and flowing

Your space is fine, but you will need ventilation (some kind of exhaust and a fresh air intake), and good lighting (Fluorescents/CFLs or HID). The light you have won't work, but you can get a 150W CFL from Wal Mart to at least start seedlings. Eventually you will either want to get more CFLs or a single high powered HID bulb or you will have small, weak plants that grow small stringy buds. You probably should have waited to germinate the seeds until you got some good base knowledge about growing indoors, but since I assume they are bag seeds, it doesn't really matter.

Growing good cannabis isn't something that happens by chance. You have to create the ideal conditions for plants to grow indoors, which takes some work. I would suggest checking out the FAQs and taking a gander at a few grow guides before you get started.

When you say light, are you referring to the bulb or the fixture? The bulb is just a left over from when I took it off the snake tank. I should have been more specific. I've got 3 of the clamplight fixtures 3 CFL's 32 watts.

The 32W means 100W equivalent? How many plants are you looking to grow?

32w = 130w equivalent.
Just 1 plant for now.

Yeah you will have plenty of light to grow a single plant. Just get some fresh air coming in an a fan to take old air out and get started!

wonderful.

just one last question. will i need to change bulbs if/when they start flowering or will these do for the whole process?

Well, most people swear by HID lighting (High pressure Sodium mainly) for flowering which will get you pretty incomparable results compared to CFLs, but I remember seeing someone that grew some pretty nice buds with CFLs. You might want to pick up a couple more bulbs when you do flower, and make sure they are warm bulbs or more towards the red spectrum for flowering. But yeah, you can definitely use them, you just won't get the yield you could have with HID.

I assume you are growing bag seed. This will be a learning experience for you at best. Keep in
mind using bag seed or better yet mexican dirt weed, it is very difficult to grow indoors. First it is a pure sativa plant and doesn't grow well indoors under the best conditions. Then when you do harvest the tiny buds you will find you grew a half ounce of good mexican dirt weed if your lucky it is not a male if you grow a single plant.

Now for my suggestions.
If you are going to grow indoors and risk going to jail make it worth it.

You have an excellent space to settup. If you have a small budget start off with investing in good seeds, you can get 10 seeds for around $70.00 w/shipping from the internet. You will be getting seeds that produce plants that are geneticaly designed for growing indoors.

Now you have to think about lighting. CFL's will get you started. Look in the lighting subforum here for Ideas that will work best for you. If you do have funding for HID lighting (High Intensity Discharge) you have just under 6 sq. ft. of space so a 400watt HID light is perfect. There's a wide varietie of ballasts to choose from, for $100.00 to $250.00. I recommend htgsupply.com

Now prep the grow space looked like your interior walls are flat white already that is great, the only improvement you could do is use mylar to cover your closet walls with to reflect the lighting on your plants. other than mylar flat white is best.

Now for the most important part ventalation and odor control. Why is this important you ask. Most growers get busted by poor odor control (if you can smell it, so can everyone else!!!) You are going to need a ventalation system with a charcole filter, how you do this depends on location of this closet and the amount of stelf you need. I am going to need more info to give you the best ideas to accomplish this. What type of dwelling are you in? Do you own or rent? What is above your closet, attic?

I hope this helps
Happy growing

For odor control, I just purchased a carbon air scrubber/fan for exhaust and to circulate air (with passive intake). Carbon Air Filter Scrubber Hydroponic Grow Light Odors - (eBay item 160113833700 end time Nov-30-07 18:02:41 PST) (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=ADME:B:EOIBSAA:US:11&Item=160113833700) These are the least expensive I've been able to find, the quality seems to be decent, and you could even just let one sit in your room to scrubber that stinky air.

Haven't received it yet, so can't say for certain.

Good luck with the grow!

the seeds came from an ounce of purple kush i bought a month or so ago. not sure it was grown indoors or outdoors.

I'm gonna head to the store shortly and see what I can do to upgrade the lighting without breaking the bank.

I was looking at other grow guides for closets and I've read that opening the door daily will provide sufficient ventilation.
I've got 2 Ionic Air Filters that I've been using so I was planning to camp them outside that closet like palace guards.

I live in a condo. My place stays well ventilated with ceiling fans and open windows.

There are 8 units in my building and everyone is a stoner. This place is baking 24hrs a day. But I don't allow people in my crib because I have a lot of high electronics and I'm not interested in getting robbed. So i'm hoping my seclusion, ventilation and the ionic air machines will keep the smell to a minimum.

Based on the closet dimensions, how many plants could I grow? I was only going to do one because I was worried about overcrowding.

Just googled purple kush and found it is only available in clone form, it is not comercialy available in seed form. None the less the seeds you have are of the indica strain. That is good. Indica grows small wide bushes.
Now how many plants do you start. "6" one per square foot. seems like a lot but when you factor in losses for males could be 2,3 or 4 total, I will bet on 3. You are left with 3 plants. 3 females will do very well in that space. 4 will be tight, 5 will be real tight.

now for lighting. If you decided to go with a HPS light you will not be able just open the doors occasionally. HPS lights produce a hell of alot of heat and you have to ventalate the heat out of your grow space, using some type of fan.

what type of door is on this closet, solid or luvered?

one other thing if you think putting a coulple of air scubbers in front of the closet is going to take care of the smell, forget it.
Think of it this way remember the stinkiest scunk you ever smelled and how quickly it filled the room with its wonderful aroma as soon as the baggie was opened. Now image 3 ounces or more growing freely in the air in your closet. Your entire neiborhood will know what your up to.
That alone should tell you you're going to need some kind of negitive air presure inside your closet.

go to the closet growing sub forum and look for the best system that will work for you. Then let us know and we will help you get started where the best places to get your supplies.

Happy growing!
