So I am using a 100W CFL "lights of america" Fluorex yard light for vegging that looks like it has a separate ballast. (Yes I'm cheap, but it's working fine)
Now that I'm in flower I was going to replace it with a warm white since the current bulb is 6500 Kelvin.
Questions:
1. Do they make a warm white (2700k) version? (I can't find one)
2. If not, is the ballast compatible with a different brand? What brand? Any brand without a built-in ballast?
3. Since during flowering I have already added 4 x 23w warm white(2700k, 100W equivalents) so I'm now half 6500k and half 2700k should that be good enough to where there is no point in worrying about it?
Thanks

Is this one of those circuline bulbs with the ballast in the middle and a bracket that mounts to the ballast and holds the bulb?
these bulbs were used extensively in the hotel industry before cfls came out or better put old technology.
Yes you can switch to a different kelvin bulb without a problem.
But since you are fruggel you are going to be shocked at the prices. You will be able to find them at electrical / lighting supply stores (Rexel / Branch electric) but the last time I checked they were $12.50 each, you can get 6 cfl's for that price at walmart.

Hi Jerry,
No that's not the kind. This is a relatively new security light I bought at HD. You can see it here:
100W CFL Security Light (http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10051&langId=-1&catalogId=10053&productId=100405565&N=10000003+90029&marketID=29&locStoreNum=663)
It's working well, but as mentioned I wanted to find a warm white bulb for flowering and I have not been able to. All the bulbs I find are generally 5000k and up.... and besides, they also all have built-in ballast... mine does not, unless I'm misunderstanding something. The wire goes to a little round box "the base" and then on to the actual reflector/fixture.
So I'm looking for: ~2700k, 100w, CFL, without ballast.
Or am I wasting my time since I do have another 100w worth of 2700k lighting on the corners of the grow (4x23w warm white cfl's).

when you sar 100w cfl do you mean 27 watt that puts out lumens equal to 100watt incadecent bulb?

No, 100w CFL which is listed as 500w incandescent equivalent.

I dont know about lights of america (No lights of Canada up here!) but from other forums ive heard they dont last long.
However there HAS to be a 2700k. Every time i go to my hardware store i see 2700k, 3200k, 4000k, 5000k and 6500k. Hell, my corner store has the selection of 4000k's and 2700k's.
I would be very suprised if they didnt have it. If the store you frequent doesn't, try walmart lowe's home depot or even dollar stores. Someone near you must sell them

Thanks, but I have already tried those places. As soon as you get up to 100W (500w equivalent) the selection is drastically reduced. Anything I have been able to find is the wrong color light and has a built-in ballast... even online I can't find'em so I think I'm stuck.
If anyone finds a bulb like this I'd love to hear about it.
Thanks.
