that's a $40 150watt hps flood light (16,000 lumen). not sure if it would work, but prob just needs rewiring. You can buy 4' 54W high output T5 fluoro strips (5,000 lumen) for $25 each at Sun Blaze 54W 4FT T5 Fluorescent Strip Light - Plantlighting Hydroponics (http://www.plantlightinghydroponics.com/sun-blaze-54w-4ft-t5-fluorescent-strip-light-p-2062.html)
If you already have a spot to grow everything, then most expenses should prob be for lighting.

Umm... space blankets are cheap mylar substitutes you could wrap that entire space in for less than $5.

I'm new, so I don't know much. Hope this helps. But you'd prob do best if you read read read threads.

good luck

Beware of digital ballasts.

Why? I'm about to start growing with those T5 strip lights.... Were they a bad idea?

Sorry...bstheory

I was only talking about HID ballasts.

You should be OK with any high-output floro ballast. Never heard of any problems with those.

PTK420, you have 2 treads going, in your other thread you have dimensions of 28" x 32" there's a big difference between that and 4' x 6' inorder to give accurate information we need accurate spec's.

Dutch Pimp,

I have a HID Ballast (digital) it's made for both HPS/MH

It blew the breaker in my apartment 2x, so i tried it with everything off, i had it on MH and a MH bulb. I plugged it in, and nothing happened so were all standing around looking at it, and the ballast starts to smoke and reak of melting plastic, we quickly unplug it and bring it back to the hydro store where im getting a new one, do you think its the apartments power, or the ballast? and do you think that problem made the ballast take more energy or something? PLEASE HELP!!!

I hate to hear that...ImTooHIgh

Something is wrong with the ballast..I don't think the apartment juice would have anything to do with.

How long have you been using it?....first time?....how many watts?....what brand?....what brand of bulb?

There are SOME bulbs that are NOT compatible...with certain digital ballasts.

If the store gives you another like it.....I still wouldn't sleep well at night.

Why? (serious question)

Not UL or ANSI rated.

If you know of ONE digital ballast that is UL rated: could I have the certification number? I need it for my study.
