I moved to illinois in april, lived in utah before and have smoked for over a decade. I moved myself and wife and 4 kids to be near her family.

I have a really non-consistant hookup. The question i have for the board is.

How did you find your hookups.
The problem i have is, I work about 8-11 hrs daily, work by myself and service alarms for homes. I work, then come home and i am dad the rest of the time.
I am not around anyone who smokes.

SO people who have relocated to another state, how did you find your hookup?

I spent the summer in Philly and my hookup out there was a customer i was installing for and 5 minutes after being there, he said "you smoke weed"? I replied sometimes, and he said need any?

I was thinking working in and around Chicago it would just happen like that, but NOPE..

one was a 4/10 and one was 7/10. Wasn't to impressed with it.

i've got like 3 hook ups.... my brother who just moved back to tx.... a friend of mine who just got out fo jail (i don't expect him to be out 2 months.... in the past 3 years or so he's spent more time in jail then out, and i don' mean by a month or so... he gets out and goes back like a month later, 9-10 months later i get a call from him lol) and my third one.... day that friend came over here me and him walked over to his house to go smoek a blunt with a friend of his and some dude stopped us on the street (we had been looking for shit too.... so it was kinda weird lol) asked us if we wanted to buy, we said yeah, we made th edeal and i got a new number.

not to be sterotypical....

but just look for a thug looking dude.... gangster, old g whatever the fuck they call them around there.... walk up to him and ask him if he knows where to get any... i can't garuntee he'll have any to sell, but i can garuntee he'll know where to get it at the very least...

never met a thug who didn't smoke, much less one who isn't into the drug world...

I did that, i finally said FUCK and i drove around in the ghetto of rockford Illinois and I found a thug with gold teeth and drinking the brown bag special.
I pulled up and asked him if he knew where I could get some smoke,
he smiled and said your a cop. I said, im not a cop, he said you look like a cop, i replied i cant change the way i look. I said look at my plates, they say UTAH and my DL since is from WY and i am just someone all out of ideas.

He agreed and told me to park down the street, a car pulled up and
he handed me a bag and handed the cash and drove off.
The shit was short and seedy as hell, but i was SO excited about getting high, i didn't care.
But i cant afford to buy shit and get shitty amounts.

Have you tried cruising some regional chat rooms? That's how I find my hook-ups when I move to a new area. Just talk to people in the room and make a few casual comments about bud. Before you know it you'll have someone talking about toking and then you just need to send them a private message asking where to get a good connection. I'm always cautious, and this method has worked for me every time I've moved.

yea, but like I said I have 4 kids. One that is eleven and three that are two. Between work and family not much time to go out socializing. But I have tossed the idea around and maybe somethings
pans out.

Might try local bars, get to know a few locals, if i can find a chance and time too.

Why not grow your own? You are just asking to get arrested or robbed, and if you have 4 kids don't you ever think of what could happen if one or the other happens? as much as I agree with EVERY point you made. Having cops come and arrest my for growing could cause more harm then I could imagine. I live in a very nice quiet sub and have 3 acres of land, with 1 of the acres wooded with natural plant wild plants.
I would if i could balance the risk, but theirs no comparison.
You know, what a attempted to purchase over a growing charge.

Hey Bro!

Just ask a cab driver. They know everything. But virtually EVERYONE will make you prove that you are not a cop first. Can't be too careful in the current legal environment (join, support, contribute to NORML).

Another idea is to ask a hotel concierge. They do this kind of thing routinely. Prove that you are not a cop and tip them handsomely.

You can grow your own, but THAT will be almost impossible with 4 children in the house. Be a good dad FIRST. Pot is the leading cash crop in the U.S. and it will be easier for you to buy it than to grow it.

Try a hydroponics shop. DON'T bother the shop clerk and/or owner (bad pot etiquette), but if you "shop" there you might just meet someone who grows the best weed in the universe.

Lastly, I have been to Rockford, Il (check out the annual Labor Day Festival on the Rock River!), and I find it to be a very pleasant community. So far, I'm not real impressed .. I'd say at best 6/10 .. I'm sure alot of that has to do with the lame hook-up I have.

You have got to be really careful about copping off the street .. after you prove you arent a cop, you may find yourself either getting jacked for the cash, or with a bag of seeds (as you well know).

A local club on Fri/Sat night may be your best bet. I know thats not easy cause of the fam, and I definitely would not suggest putting on the bjorn baby carrier and taking the little one with ya, but if you can get out every so often, you are bound to meet someone. The only reason I havent done that is cause my hook-up is one of my best friends, so I'm trying to keep the money at "home".

If you have a small space you could always start a small, continuous personal grow. You don't need much space, even buying a cabinet or two from a furniture store to turn into a grow box would be sufficient if you grow so you harvest every few weeks.

I agree I am growing a personal grow because to help with my pain management and I have a son but I don't and never have thought of it as bad. To me the only bad with pot is it is illegal. If I treat it and believe it is bad or wrong I wouldn't be doing it. Marijuana is a very helpful plant and is less of a drug then alcohol, not to stereotype but I am full Irish as well as my wife and our families have histories of problems with alcoholism and me and my wife don't drink and talk to our son about the problems with both and have constant open communication any time, any questions. On the positive side he has a complete knowledge of it and a down is he is probably more likely to smoke but when his age is right and use is responsible that is not a concern to me, and if it is something he doesn't feel he has to hide I find that better because kids will pretty much do what that do I know I did and it is much easier to know, understand, and advise when you have such an open understanding relationship on these topics. IMO

Some of you may think it's kinda sketchy, but I've got about a 90% positive response, out of the hundreds of times I've done something similar.

Being a father, definately use your best judgement. No weed is worth family troubles, but dont forget; about 3/4 of our country admits to having smoked in the past year, and it's been quite a while since I've met ANYONE who truly has a problem with it!

I acutally found one of my connects on this site when I was living in Northern VA (Outside of Washington D.C.). That was one of the main reasons I joined. Now that I'm living back where I grew up I have tons of connects. Now I just use the site to chill, relax, and maybe even learn something interesting every new day.

Other ways I found connects were just by asking random people on the metro subway if they smoked or not. Then I started buying my bud off the subway for a bit until it seemed too risky. Then I sort of quit smoking for about 2 months right before I moved back down to Tennessee. Now I'm frying my brains again like I used to in high school.
