Hey all, this would be some dudes first grow so tips and hints will be appreciated.
So far hes got one plant sprouted and in some dirt, not very far along, maybe 2 weeks, it had a little trouble at first, it started strong and got real long but skinny and tipped over, i will get a more recent pick later.
ill go through some dudes stuff to give a description.
Lights: 3 pack of 23wat (100w) CFL soft white lights.
a 3 light fixture from lowes
Soil: Sta-Green moisture max mix 14-11-8
Fert: miracle-Grow all purpose plant food 12-4-8 for veg
schultz plant food 10-15-10 for flowering
and superTHRIVE
TimeAll timer from lowes
2 sterlite tubs 23gal
some dudes pot is a bit big i think i may return it, its 24 qts
(some dude was very stoned when he went shopping btw)
Seed: just some free bagseed
thats about it i believe, some dudes still got to get a fan, and a couple other details. like another power strip.

well so far my poor little plant isnt doing so well, tonight ive finished construction of the lights, but still need a fan, one thats really quiet. tomorrow i plan on buying one because im too nervous to have the lights on for very long in the box for fear of fire.
it hasnt beefed up too much, its started to get its second set of leaves but im not sure if its going to make it past puberty. so far ive changed my soil, because the soil it started out in wasnt the soil i bought for it, i watered it with some superthrive in there, 1 gal water jug with 1/8th teaspoon superthrive
before this it was sitting underneath a simple office lamp though with a cfl in it. i only have myself to blame for its poor start :(
PS: thanks for the tip evilcowboy

If you can find some 6500k cfls those will work better for vegging...

i did take you up on the veg lights, seeing i ran into some money.
i ripped an old fan out of an old computer i had, i searched this sight and found someone explanation on how to install one, to get an adapter 12v with at least 100m and use the red and black wires, the old adapters i had didnt work, so im going to have to stop by radio shack in the next day to try and make amends. i have no idea how fast this blows or how noisy it is, hopefully not too noisy. its probably about 3 inch by 3 inch
if anyone sees any errors in this assumption or ideas, please let me know

looks promising so far.
I see you propped it up on a pencil. One suggestion I fount on here was for extra support bury the thing all the way up to the first set of leaves. Thats what I did with one that I stretched. Also I found plants respond well to earthworms and some crushed egg shells. The earthworms keep the soil loose for drainage plus they crap good nutrition for plants and egg shells were just something I read and tried and they seemed to work out pretty good.
Also you shouldn't worry too much with a fire if all your using are cfl's cause you can grab them with your hand with out it buring after they have been on for a whole day. I don't think they will put out enough heat to catch a fire.

thanks for the tip cowboy!
I got a power supply from radio shack, and tried it with my fan at home (this power supply has a selector for different volts so it can be adaptable to different units, however i didnt excersize this fact when hooking the fan up) and to my depression the fan didnt work, then returning to radio shack i bought a new fan assuming that my old one was blown out, when i returned home out of trial and error and switching the slider switch on the power supply to 12 volts the fan worked... then it crossed my mind, what about the other fan, and sure enough my old fan works too.
So yeah i left this message all typed up and didnt push submit, so i went to this party to pick up a new bag, and dude had a bowl all ready and i got tore back...fuck....so now im back
so yeah, going to put fan in tonight, but bummer on waste of money =/

well after installing the fan and keeping a regular light/darkness pattern of 18/6 my temp was 79 today at lunch when i checked, the plant seems to be doing better and hasnt keeled over, but when i found it today at lunch it had fallen over again, ive repotted twice so far so im worried about trying to put it into a taller pot and burying it up further to help support, once because i had it in a small dish of dirt, and then into a bigger tin but its still fairly shallow, 3 inches probably. now that im saying this it seems alot more practical to me to put it in a taller pot, but still, im a paranoid stoner.
its starting to develop its third set of leaves, i have superthrive in the water and have been gauging when to water by soil dryness, wich so far with the light schedule has been every other day or so. i read in the grow bible that with nutrients and fertilizer weed is sensitive to it and should be diluted twice if not three times the recomended amount on the box, superthrive calls for 1/4 tsp to a gallon so i put in 1/8th, dunno if this is to my detriment or not yet though.
also ive been concidering germing some more, i only have one going right now but with rising fears of it turning out a male and my hard work gone down the tube it might be a more pragmatic look at it.
ill update pictures later

Ya buy the Daylight CFL's for Vegging, and use the Soft white for Flower. Transplant it in some good soil, and much bigger pot.
I thought No Nutes for the first 2 weeks??

Update.
Ive repotted the plant with a new 6 inch pot, and it seems to be doing okay, hasnt fallen over, and the stick has been removed.
I also started germing some new seeds in a shot glass and am waiting for them to pop, im going to plant (hopefully) 3 more for a total of 4 to up my odds of a female. i dont really want to grow 4 because i definatly dont have the room, 1 at the most 2, but seeing this is my first grow, i will probably stick with just one and try and make the best out of it.
When i went to the store the other day to see if they had some small planters pots i remembered reading something about miracle gro and that its not really the best for weed. so seeing that its unopened and i still have the receipt somewhere, i may take it back, the only other thing they have at lowes thats organic would be alaska fish emulsion fert and i have no idea about that, its 5-1-1 and im not sure if thats enough to get the job done, or if its even that good? if anyone has any good or bad comments aobut it please tell me.
so after this next check ill be picking up some different fert, and possibly another set of lights, and a power strip, because when the lights go out, the fan stays on, and i dont think it really needs to be does it? and maybe some vermiculite or something else to add to the soil for when the big pot comes around/ new seedlings.
any other hints?
thanks for looking

Whats up. Okay the first thing I would do is get the plants closer to the lights. The closer the better at least 6 inchs when using cfls. The alaskan fish emulsion is good to use for a first timer I used the first time and I still use it. If you are looking for a good soil try fox farms ocean forest to me its the soil out there some will say its not but for first timers i say use it. For ferts I would go with fox farms grow big,big bloom, and tiger bloom oh and you can get there bloom boosters to open sesame.beastie bloom, and cha ching before i was in my car wreck I was using there ferts in my soil garden and they rock. :rasta::rastasmoke::pimp:

see heres the problem, i would buy foxfarm stuff, but im no where near anyplace that sells it, the nearest place is over 50 miles. and thats pretty steep for somone without their own car.
so i dunno, unless i can get somone to ship it or something. im kind of pickled

yeah I put my lights about 2 inches the first week then 4 inches later on. So you really dont want that to stretch anymore cause when the stem starts to harden a stiff breeze could snap it.
the first one I did was stretched like that and I had to stake it up for about 2 weeks untill I wass sure it wouldn't fall over and I buried it aout 1/2 in from the first set of leaves cause I was still scared it would end up falling over.
But good luck with it...hope it turns out alright.

So i had a chance to stop by a hydro store the other day, i was traveling to an animal shelter to adopt a dog and coincidentally it was near a hydro store, so i picked up some ocean forest foxfarm soil, along with tiger bloom and grow big, i dont know if big bloom is in fact needed or not, but they didnt have it in so if someone has a recomendation for it, i may have to try and fit another trip in.
I added some ocean forest to the oldest one, i have 2 more seedlings in old soil, going to wait untill theyre a little older to repot and i think tomorrow or day after i will start with big grow fert, the oldest is starting on its third set of leaves so i think thats about far enough into veg yes?
will update pics in a couple of days

I think most people wait until about the 4th or 5th set of leafs(not including the seed leafs) and/or about 3-4 weeks into veg(that is once the seed at broken soil) I could be wrong but thats what I have always seen and read

the oldest is making progress. and i see two little heads poking up, the 3rd new one was put in soil yesterday and i expect to pop her head up in the next day or two
