I apologize if this is in the wrong section. Please do what you must if it is in the wrong place.
Ever since I can remember ive had trouble falling asleep early, that is untill i discovered marijuana. I have been smoking once a night for the past 4 months and i have never felt so revived, awake, alert, happy and chipper. I recently ran out of bud and i havent fallen asleep before 3 am since and I have to get up at 6 am every morning. I figured that i had too much energy and i was burning off what excess energy I had, but here I am the 5th night in a row where its well past my time for sleep, ive been tired all day for the past 2 days, and yet when my head hits the pillow Im wide awake, the other day when my dog threw up at 3 am, i was happy because it gave me something to do. I have tried turning off all visual stimulating electronics at 9 but i will roll around in bed for 4 to 6 hrs trying to find sleep. Ive tried read, ive tried a warm glass of millk. Long story short, I cant sleep. Can marijuana help fight insomnia but in the long run make it worse?

Well, marijuana helps my insomnia greatly. But id imagine if you were using it every night, and now your out, it could be really bad because of widthdrawal?
Thats all that comes to mind...

Psychological cannabis withdrawal.. maybe somewhere inside you convinved yourself that you need cannabis to sleep. Many of my friends have experienced it and so have I.. It's a bit of a downside but you can overcome it - remember what you've built up over the last 4 months is just a habit, I could give you advice on how to revert back to what it was like before cannabis.. but it sounds like that wasn't the best deal either.
Get some bud in ;)

Damn Storm Crow....you have all that info in your pocket? My hubby uses it for sleeping as well and he's tried EVERYTHING. I won't go into long detail but he's close to 50 (and I won't say close which way :))....discovered ganja about a year ago for his sleeping and it REALLY has helped him. I've never seen him sleep so well or have the kind of energy he does these days and it DOES seem to be the answer for him.
As far as making it worse....as I said....he's 50ish and had the problem his whole life until he started with cannabis. I'm not sure it could get worse.....only come back.
I find that edibles work wonders for me when I am having a restless week. 1/2 brownie about 2 hours before bedtime and I sleep straight through for 7-8 hours. I don't always have trouble falling asleep but when I do this is what solves it for me.

Nothing but kind bud helps my sleeping problems...
SLeeping pills do somewhat work but unlike mairjuana has no side effects(besides the high ;D) but in the morning after taking a sleeping pill the last night, you wkae up groggy.
I wish Marygeewannah(hehe...) was legalized. Life would be simplier and easier.

they pretty much already answered your questions....
but some things to help is to turn the clock away from you so you dont know what time it is, and if you cant sleep then get out of bed and go for a run, or do something else and then try again later, (my friend told me this helps him sleep)..

I have trouble falling asleep as well, without the aid of marijuana. Before I smoked, I was a NyQuil junkie. That shit is awful.
But I noticed that marijuana really makes me feel refreshed in the morning, it's a natural sleep - but NyQuil, my body would be dead tired and my brain would still be bouncing around inside my head. Sometimes I'd get this weird bodylock and would feel completely conscious in a sleeping body. Getting up was a struggle, too. I felt melted into the bedsheets.
But marijuana is great. I bounce out of bed when it's light out. I know the frustration of not being able to sleep when you're out of weed. This might be a little girly, but it really helps me - go to a bath and body outlet and get some lavender-scented bath salts. Take a really warm bath with the salts, and read or play a handheld. Music makes me wired, so I usually do it in silence.
Before you get in the bath, have a bedtime snack of toast and something - toast and peanut butter, toast and Nutella (my favorite), grilled cheese - and some milk. The carbs and the milk will make you sleepy. By the time you get out of the bath and into bed, you'll be all set. Give it a shot sometime :)
EDIT: Budsmoker, you are right about excercise - it does help you sleep - but you have to be finished no less than three hours before bedtime, or you'll stay wired for even longer.

i notice that certain strains put me to sleep, while others tend to wake me up. unlike most people (it seems), indicas wake me up so i like to smoke it during the day, but at night, i prefer a sativa. i'm guessing everyone's body will react differently to different strains, and trial and error is the best way to find out what works how...

I take ambien for my sleep....about 20 mg which is high,I heard the limit is 10mg per day,but my dictor told me to take this much,I have problems responding to pain meds,so I thought thats why it wasnt working so well.
Question is,I didnt see Insomnia on the list of Qualifying problmes for MJ.Does it depend on the state or Doctor making the recommend?

wow you sound exactly like me. i was a bennadryl junkie forever... that shit is really bad for you too over time and tolerance builds so quick...
then i found bud for sleep... and now i cant sleep without it either. it makes me fall asleep so quick and easy and get a full 8 hrs to be all refreshed the next day. i would die without mj because i would be so sleep deprived.
btw, im a dude and ill admit that on cold nights i like to sit in a hot bubble bath and smoke till i sleep... safely of course. but yea always always after a grill cheese or peanut butter too... how wierd. or spaghetti.
peace
