Hey guys.. I've been lurking a lot, but it's time to start posting :)
A friend of mine gave me four AK-47 seeds, because he doesn't have the place to grow them... Anyways, I got right to it :)

Made myself a pot out of an old protein supplement container, and i had 2 other pots lying around the garden... Oh yes, this in an out door grow ^_^

Anyways... i germinated the seeds indoors, then put them outdoors asap. The first few weeks had terrible weather, no sun, rain etc. but all survived. 1 seed didn't sprout though :<

Here are the pics after a week or 2. The one plant got munched by a snail... fortunately i caught the fucker and threw him over the wall. Then 2 nights later, I had a calling to go check on my babies, and i found an army of a bout 15 snails crawling up the pots! one snail was already in the soil!!! I threw them all over the wall and the next day bought a box of snail pellets. How lovely it is to see empty snail shells lying around the pots

The little seedling in the tray took 1 week longer to sprout for some reason...
anyways, i transplanted him after he got a bit big. The plant which got munched survived miraculously :D It got stunted heavily... it used to be the biggest out of the 3, and now is the same size as that of the one which sprouted 1 week later :< Oh well, she's doing fine :pimp:

(the plant which got eaten is the plant in the white pot)

Lets give them names... The small seedling I will call Nigel (it turned out to be a male :< but i'll get to that later)

The plant in the white, protein supplement pot can be called Robyn, and the plant in the large pinkish pot will be called Sasha.

b0n3ZA
10-23-2007, 05:56 PM
Also... another thing to mention is the soil.
For Robyn, i bought soil, as well as compost and mixed it together, it's a lot more airy.
for Sasha, I used an existing, very DARK soil that was already in the pot, but then added some compost and sand to the mix. It will be interesting growing the same plant in different soil and seeing if there is any difference in the Yield.

Ok so after a while, i realized that the place where the plants were growing, were only getting a half day of sunlight. I have moved them to a new location where they are now getting a lot more :>

They are thriving!
However... I found out nigel was a male. I ripped it out and fed it to the dogs. I transplanted nigel to a new pot with a very sandy type of soil. Nigel is the plant on the left. Robyn and Sasha are now proud, single females :>

Just to recap... in order from left to right:
Nigel, Robyn, Sasha.

The ferts I am using a natural product called Seagrow, which you can mix with your water. there is no risk of over feeding the plants or damaging them with seagrow... decent stuff. the stuff stinks like ass though...

b0n3ZA
10-23-2007, 06:07 PM
9 days later.... and they have grown A LOT.

A problem though... Sasha has got an STD :< So much for single females, damn lesbos!
I think she has crabs, or something similar.

A fly infestation, little white dots appearing on the leaves. HOW DO I TREAT THIS?!
Also... some of her longer leaves touch the soil, and when they do, they sort of turn brown and shrivel off at the edges, is this normal?

I will take better pics soon showing the problems she has.
So for now it's just a full body shot. Robyn on the left, Sasha, big and strong on the right :>

(the pic was taken just as the rain stopped, so they are looking a bit droopy, tomorrow if the weather's good I will post some more pics).

COMMENTS PLEASE!! :<

Hey this question is a little off topic but can any one tell me im doin a hydro setup maybe soile now i orderd a PH pen off of ebay now what would be more important a Weather station to monitor the room or a TDS pen i only have the money for one of them any one?

b0n3ZA
10-23-2007, 06:17 PM
the PH pen I'd say...
Remember, they are weeds, as long as they have good lighting, they are pretty tough plants adn withstand baddish weather. PH is important though... I know a lot of indoor growers who grow amazing crops, none of them have weather monitors lol, that's a bit excessive imo.

I need a PH monitor myself :S I don't have one yet.

nice to see an outdoor growth of ak47, a strain id like to do myself !
deal with the bugs ASAP do not wait another minute, they are laying eggs as we speak. it only goes to worse. I dont know about bugs since Im an indoors person but little white flies.. you might check the shop for a spray. Since its vegetative stage theres no worries just spray them adecuately as it sais on the can.

You can use tabaco juice mixed with garlic juice also if you want to do it the organic way. To make tabaco juice ( I think ) you put some tabacco ( 10-20 cigaretes my guess, open them up and throw in ) into 1 liter of water and let it sit there 2 days. Also chop up some garlic and throw it in there also. Then after 2 days you pass it through a ... dont know in english, something to catch the tabaco and let the water through .. net / coffeefilter
And spray ( mist ) that water onto the plants 2-3 times a day. It should keep most flies away. Although the problem you have can be larvae mites? Can you get a close up pic and define how they are a little more?

Glad to have you join us, best of luck!

Thanks for the advice man! :)

Ok the flies i see are little black ones, as well as whiet ones. Not often though, like i see 1-2 a day, and i squash them when i see them. however the white dots are getting worse...

How destructive are these flies? I will get a magnifying glass and check for spider mites... i haven't seen any with my bare eyes though.

OK these set of pics are just comparing the 2 plants from a distance.

The fertilizer that I'm using is one called Seagro.

The next set of pics will be detailing some issues that I'm having with the one plant...

5 days later with an update.

In the first 2 pics u can see the burning that i was talking about.. i don't think it's a nute burn.... Is it possible that if a plant is sprayed with water on a HOT scorching day, that the leaves could get burnt?

anyways... the parasite problem.. in the last pic u can see a tiny fly on the leaf. These aren't normal houseflies, and only seem to occupy the larger plant. I dont know what they are... but they seem to make little white dots on the leaves. I've checked for spider mites and haven't seen any.

help, comments, criticism would be great :>

Thanks.

Whiteflies, Gnats, Black Gnats, Spider Mites? Most likely spider Mites and those things are bastards!! I have have tried everything and these things are hard to kill! Just go buy some Fruit&Vegetable Made from (Safe Home&Garden) spray from Home depot, wet the leaves liberally on both sides and in a weeks do it again, until you have killed both the Eggs and Spider mite adults. The Spray doesn't kill the eggs, re-spray is a must in a day or 2 after the prior spray. This spray can also be used up until the day of harvest as well. Be sure to do boths sides of the leaves or else you can kill the ones on top, but still leaving the assholes underneath.

Well judging from the fact that certain strains are known to grow to certain hights.
AK-46 = 45cm-55cm indoor (AK 47 Marijuana Seeds High Quality serious seeds (http://www.marijuana-seeds.nl/AK_47_seeds.html))

but im wondering.. my one pot is large... larger than most indoor pots, i mean it takes 2 people to move it (that's dragging it across the ground), this plant may grow higher. I mean it hasn't even started flowering yet and is higher than 55cm. however the plant in the smaller pot (which is the same age) is a lot smaller.

haha i guess i kinda answered my own question, but anyways :> Thanks for the comment :>
glad to see someone is watching my log :D

I think i've gotten rid of the flies. I found a tiny bit of pesticide left in a jar in the garage, probably some stuff my mother uses. Mixed a teaspoon into a window cleaning spray bottle with water and sprayed the plants for a few days. I saw less and less flies each day... I think they're gone :D Will keep spraying for a few more days just to make sure..

Strange how they only infested the one plant and not the other?

Also... the smaller of the 2 plants seems A LOT smaller than the other. It also seams to have grown very differently. oh well.. probably because of a different root structure?

Thanks for the comment Shovelhandle :) Nice to know people are keeping track of my grow :D peace.

Plant size is dependent on pot size and the amount of room the roots have to grow.Of course this is just one factor in determining growth and size.I do a 2 and 1/2 to 3 month veg with my girls so I try to use 5 gallon pots when possible and I have been thinking about increasing pot size in the near future (well bucket size to be precise as Im gonna get wet here in a couple of months).Good luck with your grow and congrats on getting a handle on the pest problem.Take care,be well, and most of all be safe.

Wzup Brotha? Looks great! Glad to hear you got the bug situation under control, though you hopefully made sure that the pesticide was safe for "eatable plants" ? Don't want to be smoking Chemicals.

I read around, researched, and pretty much the question is. How big do you want the plant to be??
Because the bigger the pot (3,5,7gal.) and the more room the roots have to grow, the bigger, taller the plant will want to be. Put them both in 5 Gallon pots are call it good IMHO. BTW Try to find Deeper pots, and not such shallow ones.

The smaller plant might be a Female, from what I hear Males are quicker to mature and flower, and females seem to be a few days, weeks behind even.

Hope this helps. later

^^ Thought I would post this for you as well.

"Plant size in soil is directly related to pot size. If you want the plant to grow bigger, put it in a bigger pot. Usually, 1/2 gallon per foot of plant is sufficient. A six foot plant would require a minimum of a 3 gallon pot. Remember, square containers have more volume in a square space (like a closet)." ~ WF

Oh well...
an update :D woohoo!

So basically I borrowed my brothers cell phone, which was the same as mine that got stolen :< *jealous*

So I have some new pics. The one plant isn't doing well at all. I think it has a neut deficiency or something, but not too sure... Maybe someone can help. The other plant has just started flowering :D

Please can someone give me an indication as to what the problem could be... IT hasn't grown in ages, it has shown it's sex ages ago, but the leaves are getting yellower and the stems are very purple. It's literally as if it just stopped growing, and has been sitting like this for ages now. I mean look at these pics compared to the previous ones :/

confused.

Ok, well another thing i noticed....
When it rains, even for a whole day + night, the following day i will decide not to water the plant, for obvious reasons. so anyways... I check the plant in the late afternoon and it's all DROOPY. I give it water and BAM, it perks up in about 30 minutes. When it rains, the rain just falls on the leaves and out of the pot. I need to remember that one for the future! Almost killed my baby girls!

Hey B0n3ZA....i think the problem is, that the plants like the sun and warm weather, but the roots don't...If the sun shines on the pot and it's gets too warm, the roots simply get cooked...i have lost some plants bcuz of this before, so i think this could be the problem... Try to avoid that direct sunlight shines on the pots....

sorry for the inactivity.
I was on holiday in Canada for just over a month.

Whilst I was away, my mother replanted the plants into the ground, not in pots anymore.

The thing is... I planted the seeds at the wrong time, being a noobie and all. This mid winter (our winters are still hot, but with longer nights, perfect for flowering outdoors). So because of the light period being closer to 12/12 they started flowering early (correct me if im mistaken).

Now that it's full blown summer (like 8-9 hours darkness) and BRIGHT african sun, the plants just stopped flowering and went into rapid vegitative growth, which they are currently in now.

The sick plant was also replanted, and is doing very well. But is growing tall and lanky because of it being pot bound and having hot roots in that plastic pot. I will prune it a bit.

Will post pics soon. sorry about inactivity :D

nice to know someone was watching silently ;)

Yeah i know. It's amazing how fast they grow once planted in the ground!
The sick plant recovered instantly and is already twice the size. Could you point me to a good thread on how to prune plants? or how to tie them down to grow outwards and not upwards.

Thanks in advance.
Oh... pics are coming soon! promise ;)

b0n3ZA
01-23-2008, 04:03 PM
anyways, here is the promised update. Will get some macro shots in soon.
Hasn't started flowering yet...
In a way I'm glad they stopped flowering and went back into veg. growth. At the end of the day I'll have a bigger harvest :)

As you can see, the plants have been replanted into the ground and are growing fast!

The sick, deathly looking plant, when replanted just auto-healed itself :D The structure of the plants are so different because of the different sized pots they were in previously.
Anyways, comments are appreciated!

maryvv22
01-27-2008, 12:22 AM
Looks good. I think your smaller plant wasn't sick it just didn't like that size pot. The pot was way too small to grow a healthy plant. That is why it recovered so fast after transplanting. I think the small flies you had could have been fungus gnats which lay their eggs in soil (usually waterlogged). They won't bother the leaves but the larvae will eat the roots. There is a biological control that you can put on the soil that will confuse the gnats and they stop reproducing. Gnatrol is what it's called. I think since you've transplanted it probably won't be a problem anymore. But my outdoor garden gets them from time to time. When they start to flower you might want to give them more than Seagrow. Find an organice bloom fert and use that. Wish my landscaping looked like that. :) Keep up the good work.

b0n3ZA
01-27-2008, 02:09 PM
Thanks for the comment and encouragement :)
I think the pot thing could have been the problem, you're right.

About the gnat and fly problem... Well, since the transplant all seems good. You were right there too :) No more gnats!

The landscaping, heh. That's my little garden outside my room. I might plant a few seedlings in the propper garden out front. The only problem is that the garden is pretty visible to the road :/

Has anyone heard of or used those lowrider, auto-flowering seeds? do they actually work?

OK, well here is an update!

Both plants have grown a lot in the past few weeks, especially the one on the right.

Also... I THINK that they started flowering. But, I'm not sure if it is just pre-flowers which for some reason are bushying up more than usual... They have been flowering for a week now. The one plant looks further along than the other.

Here are the pics, comments and advice would be great! I'm going to go buy some organic flowering/bloom neuts today.

ive grown outside for like 5 years now and have NEVER had plants as bushy as that......
secondly, as long as those babies are getting amplle light, theres no need to trim anything.

I'm inspired to do an outdoor session now, ur budz and plants look killer:jointsmile:. If i could get away with it where i lived and had consistant weather i would most deffinately give it a run. However Im more conentrated on first honing my indoor abilities first.

Is the weather good in south africa for growing?

It appears so. We have wet winters, but never too cold. Our summers are long and mostly hot. Some areas in South Africa have very strong summer winds. Where I live it isn't so bad though.

more like the back of my house smells, now that i harvested the one plant. haha.

The one doesn't seem quite ready yet, so we're gonna chop it this weekend.

I will post pics once they are both down. I'm also working on a short video of the whole grow log and harvest. In due time though :P

Thanks for the support hydro, and everyone else ^_^

Nice man...:D

What was your total yeild?

Not 100% sure.
Here are some pics. I've only weighed small amounts that I've smoked or given away.

This is some of the bud. I still have about another 100-200 grams that i haven't cut up yet. Less lets say another 100 grams that i've smoked and given to friends. There's still lots left :)

But I do plan on growing out some AK-47. I ordered Serious Seeds beans and waiting. <G>
So, is this Serious Seeds' you grew here?

I guess I should review the log again anyway.

A friend of mine in the town I live is good buddies with the guy who owns the headshop in town. he gets seeds from him.. But I know of one or two dealers in the area who order from Nirvana, so it's a rough guess but i'd say maybe the seeds were from Nirvana, who knows. Or maybe from his homegrown... Either way, i'm sure they were the real deal. This stuff kicks HARD :)

Not too sure if I'll grow again next season. And if I do, I don't know what strain..
I still live with my parents, so it's up to them I guess.
I'll ask them again when the time comes ;)

Thanks so much to all of you guys who watched, supported and posted comments!
Much appreciated!

b0n3ZA!

Man, that is a sweet log. I will have to go back and review the entire thread, as I got a bit impatient to see the harvest once I noticed the beginning was some months ago. It looks like you had a great time with it during the growing process, but it looks like you're having a better time now! Congratulations, my friend! And, thanks for your comments in my log. Any advice you can feed me along the way will be appreciated.

Woot! GREAT log bro! I read it in it's entirety. The "gale force winds" cut the yield down as well as the root bound pot issue, but DUDE!

That herb will keep getting better as it cures for a couple of months.

Hey, I got some AK-47 beans to grow next winter, along with some Neville's Haze. Of course, the haze will take a month longer to finish. I'll be reviewing your log until I can memorize it, I'm sure. So thanks, man!

ok... so the time has come :)
a new log is on it's way!

I'll be growing outdoors again, this time with the GH Flora series neuts throughout the grow, and not just 3 weeks into flower like the last time.. Unfortunately i've started the grow 4 months late... They'll have about 3-4 months of grow time, that's 3-4 months less than last time :(

I've managed to get hold of two Ice clones, both whom are doing relatively well, though the one doens't seem to be growing nearly as fast as the other. I've also managed to get hold of a little mother plant from a friend. She's a Sour Diesel x OG Kush mommy.

Anyways, i'll be starting a new thread later today with some pics.
Take it easy, cheesey.

Oh, and in response to the yield question...
I got somewhere between 400-500 grams altogether from both the plants.
