My joints suck

What's up guys/girls? I've been a weed smoker off and on for the past 7 years, and in the past few months I've began smoking multiple times a day almost every day. I can roll a killer blunt, I have a good bowl that I bought at a headshop, I've got a home-made vaporizer, and a pack of rolling papers. I can get stoned by the first 3 of those methods, but I can't roll a joint for shit it seems.

I'll make myself a little clearer. I can roll what looks like a typical joint, but it smokes like shit. For example: The joint that I rolled was actually rolled while reading the tutorial that's stickied at the top of this page. I had a good cardboard roach that made the joint easier to hit and sturdier to hold. I just couldn't keep the damn thing lit. I always have a problem with my fire...either the joint stay lit, or it burns an inch of the paper without touching the weed.

To put it in better perspective, I'm a pack a day cig smoker, and I've smoked thousands of joints that OTHER people rolled and rarely have a problem. It's just that my own joints are shit. The sad thing is that I could roll a perfect joint out of anything when I was in highschool. Could it be that my papers just suck and are too thin? Would double rolling help my weed burn right?

Get your mixture i the rizla and start to roll it. Don't roll it to tight, but press the mixture together firmly when rolling. Make sure when you "tuck" the joint (roll it up) that it's done firmly but not to tight.
Give it a few taps down before you light it and see how that goes.
Keep on practicing, the more you do it the better they will be over time.

All I can think of is that you should pack a bit more weed into it, I find I can roll a joint better if its oozing with weed...then I end up with a nice fat joint. Like weedyboywonder said, keep practicing, you'll be surprised how quickly you'll be able to roll a nice, tasty, evenly burning joint.

If it won't stay lit, try lighting it while taking a hit to see if it will begin to burn. And as Weedy said try not to make them too tight.

Also make sure you break it up real good. the more even consist. the better.
Plus try holding your light on the end for about 10-15 sec and then taking a puff.

we have that problem somtimes, and i hate it cos so much weed is wasted cos it dont burn right, i think its either the weed aint burning properly, you licked the paper too much, or the papers are plain shit, cos even wen my friends make a crooked roll it still burns right so its probably the materials.

hmm the only problem i ever have is the tightness... but even my loose joints burn pretty evenly


my biggest problem is the tucking in part so i just improvise i kinda just fold it over then roll it so theres not really any tucking involved... i dunno how good that explanation is

I used to have the exact same problem.
I have only recently managed to get it under control haha.

The reason it doesn't stay a light is not because you aren't mixing it with tobacco, it's not because you have shit materials, i'ts not because you licked the paper too much. it's jsut that the weed isn't tightly packed into the joint!
Let me explain...

this is how i roll:

lie your paper on the table, and sprinkle your weed onto it. Leave the roach out for the mean while. don't sprinkle all the weed on at once, just a bit. Then pick the paper up and start rolling it between your fingers. Keep doing this until when u open the paper, the weed inside is like a solid turd, not all crumbly...

Now add some more, and do it again, until it's all in and nice and firm. then put your roach in and roll.

Even when that is done... take a car key, or a straw, or a stick, or whatever u have lying around u and gently tap all the weed deeper into the joint. Make sure it's compact. Once it is, close the deal and light up.

you should't have problems with it going out anymore. Also, you will find that if it is tightly compact, it will burn for a lot longer.

its all about making sure your weed is cut up enough and how compact it is. You never want it compact though just firm.

practice makes perfect but there are some different methods. if you have good sticky icky you could break it up, put it in your hand, slide your hands back and forth to make the weed look like a stick in your hand, then put it in the paper and roll it upp!!!! or just practice... :jointsmile:

I've never really seriously tried rolling joints before, but reading this thread made me curious. I guess I cheated and used a mate's joint roller... Anyway, those things are so easy to use! Made a nice fat one, then lit it up... Forgot I was using tobacco, stuff was harsh!

I think it's a tightness issue. It's not like I can't get it to hit at all, it's just that I have to constantly relight it, and half the time it will only hit when I put fire to it. The last joint I smoked got to where I could actually see the weed, but the joint had burned around it. Drives me insane because I can roll a great blunt, and I USED to roll joints that didn't give me this problem. I also don't think that it's an issue with how well I break up my weed, because often times I'll even use small scissors (like the ones for facial hair) to chop up my buds.

You guys have been a lot more helpful than my friends. They usually tell me that it's because the weed's too sticky, but I'm not buying that. I'm gonna try B0n3ZA's suggestion right now, and I'll post back to let you guys know how it works out.

I have same problem. I can roll a mean fat blunt but not even the skinniest joint. I gave up a long time ago due to the fact blunts hold way more bud and I'm a very stubborn person, haha.

I've decided that it's just these papers that I bought. While I don't have a blender, I tear my weed up pretty fine, and my joints usually look picture perfect when I finish rolling them. I've rolled 3 or 4 joints in the past 2 days, and every time I just double rolled it, and while it didn't burn perfectly the entire time, I only had to relight it a couple of times near the end. Got higher than a motha fucka too...

Also, I've learned that I roll fucking awesome joints when I'm already high. For some reason though, I suck at rolling blunts when I'm high....

my dealer in my first year of university taught me how to roll....you really just need to practice. take your time, chop it up well, re roll it if its to loose. my dealer told me that when you are learning to roll, dont smoke your weed any other way then joint form, that way your reward for learning to roll it is to smoke it.

you learn pretty quick. watch how other people roll as well, ive picked up some good tricks for making rolling easier. like rather then fiddling around with the bits that fall out, you roll it, pack it, put the roach in, pack it again so its all even, then before you roll the tip pile up the little bits that fell out when rolling and put the joint to your mouth and suck them up. 1000 times easier then picking it up with your fingertips.

It can be the papers but most likely any burning problems can be related to how tightly packed the weed is. From one of the open ends of your join, just throw some more weed in it and pack it in with a pokey. Anything that will fit like a key or a screw driver or something. It may take some more time but it's time you should invest.

What's the purpose of the cardboard? To filter the smoke or hold the weed in? Rolling with just about any paper shouldn't be a problem. Even the weed out leaving about 1/8" paper at the ends. Tighten it, but not too much, by rolling the weed between the paper halves a couple times, then tuck it for the final roll. Roll it almost to the top. Lick the glue strip. Don't lick half the paper; but get the glue with a decent amount of spit. Then you can stick it, paying special attention to the ends. I dunno 'bout putting cardboard in the ends. The spliff was pretty cool but hard to roll for beginners.

Get some good papers and tap the weed down before you finish the tip. I rolled up a fat jay my second try and it smoked like a charm. :D
