This is going to be my first growroom for the magical cannabis! Please respond with any advice.

Strain:
Afghan from marijuana-seeds.nl

Room:
It will be 3' deep, 3' wide, and 5' tall. The walls will be a plywood covered in 1 mil Mylar.

Lighting:
I will be using a 400W HPS ballast with a GrowBright 400 watt MH Conversion Bulb for veg and HTG Supply 400w HPS Bulb for flowering. The reflector will be a Euro reflector. hhttp://htgsupply.com/viewoption.asp?ID=124

Growing Medium:
I have a 50% peat moss, 25% perlite, 25% vermiculite soilless mix ready. 3 gallon bag containers will be used. They have drainage holes in the bottom, so I will install a large catch pan about 1" underneath so there is no stagnant water in the bags.

Fertilizer:
FoxFarm Liquid Soil Formula - Grow Big; veg
FoxFarm Liquid Soil Formula - Tiger Bloom; flowering

Seed Starting:
I'm planning on using the paper towel method and then planting seeds in rockwool. After seedlings have grown for about 2 weeks they will be transplanted to 3 gallon bags. During seedling growth I will use 2 4ft daylight flouros.

Ventilation:
This is where I'm undecided. I want to install a 250cfm inline-fan as an exhaust, but am unsure if I will need it. Would the room get too hot with the light set-up?

CO2:
Since this isn't a huge factor, I will probably use yeast/sugar water.

Odor:
I did some research and found a post that said to use a 3 or 5 gallon bucket with 1 cup Febreeze in water and install a fan blowing in. This would be much cheaper than getting a carbon scrubber. How bad would the smell be anyway? I live in an apartment by myself, but I don't want the smell to be detectable in the living room in case a visitor shows up.

Anything I'm leaving out?

ventalation,

you're going to need the fan also you will need to keep the room cool with a window open or a/c on.

odor control I recommend a scrubber, you're in an apartment, there's to big a chance someone will smell it or why a stong odor of fabriz comes from your place. plus you won't need it till you start flowering your plants.

other than that you have a great settup that will work extreamly well.

lol and let us know how it goes.

Medico - you seem real organized until it comes to the ventilation part.

Imagine, for a moment, that you wanted to build an oven. How differently would you design it from your grow-box plans? I'm not trying to give you a hard time. I'm just trying to help you visualize the problems you are facing.

I would suggest that you hook your fan to push air through a cooled hood then out to exhaust. This will vent your cab and cool your light at the same time.

Put a carbon filter on one end of the vent line or the other. It won't make a whole lot of difference. If you can't afford to buy one, there's a great DIY on this forum and the filter is very easy and inexpensive to make.

You also want an oscilating fan inside the cabinet to blow the air around. Mj loves a breeze!

Good luck! Enjoy your project!

an appartment would have my stomache in knots about smell without a scrubber. i am not sure about afghani smell but i wouldnt try skunk and fabreeze, lol. the stuff i have grown is fairly low smell untill the last 2 weeks of flowering(no guests at this time) also when you shut off your light you will get a green clean smell for a few minutes(plant smell deffinately though) personaly i wouldnt try in an appt. without an airscrubber, the diy one is supposed to work well but i have not tried it yet. and with peat you will want to watch your ph.

Alright, thanks guys. I was looking into this carbon scrubber: 4" X 12" ACTIVATED CARBON AIR FILTER/SCRUBBER - (eBay item 180170525644 end time Oct-23-07 22:38:00 PDT) (http://cgi.ebay.com/4-X-12-ACTIVATED-CARBON-AIR-FILTER-SCRUBBER_W0QQitemZ180170525644QQihZ008QQcategoryZ4 3555QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)

With this inline fan: High Tech Garden Supply (http://htgsupply.com/viewproduct.asp?productID=46434)

I realize that the carbon scrubber says it's rated at 100-200 cfm and the fan is only 80 cfm, but the room isn't THAT big. Would it do the job and are they good products?

Thanks!

That fan will not sufficiently cool your room.

all is in but the amount of plants?!

as for the fan ehhh no thas not "cool enough"
I say 1-2 6in clip fans (like on a bus) ;p for circulation, one above and one below the canopy(IMO)

(Intake/Exaust) intake should be around mid-lower of the cab.
exaust should be upper cab tho, Im with PC on the cooled hood.

alas is thers method! .
anything in mind??

should be if it is at least rated for the size of room you have. that is a good price, ive seen some expensive ones. how much was the fan for it?
