hey people,

i'm going to amsterdam on the 2nd of november just because i'm getting dope cravings and it's killing me for the past three months.

i'm staying, most probably, at the flying pig.

can anyone give me some homely advice as to what amsterdam really is? i've never been there and i'm going by myself. yes, i am pretty nervous.. oh well..

please give me some tips and advice and whatever you may think is appropriate for me to know..

grateful to you.

I seriously do NOT want to hype it up because when you hype things up, sometimes your left expecting too much? But it really is all that. Just think to yourself it's gonna be crap and i'm not expecting much, so when you go there you'll think wow!

aaaaah man, the smell, the aroma, the people......

SOME people say there is more to Amsterdam than the RLD and the Weed but for a tourist, WHY would you POSSIBLY want anything else?? ;)

lol on a serious note....it's beautiful. You have to check it out for yourself. Amazing experience, one I will never forget. It's the highest place on earth. Fact.

I was so excited before I went, so was on nearly every Amsterdam site. Once you go to a place like that, it really DOES open your eyes. The dutch people really know how to live and props to the politicians. The whole world needs to take a look at them for inspiration, I'm being serious. People toking spliffs wherever you go, it's like a social thing. A very mature looking older woman, looked about 35...handing over some money and buying a big bag of weed. She looked very professional and had typical housewife/mother sort of look. I just thought wow. Talk about stereotyping.

You'll have the odd crack dealers coming and approaching you, but that's about it. Even that, it's at night and if you go around the RLD. It's no more frightening that if you went ANYWHERE in the world at night. No place is 'SAFE' if you think about it??

If you are with someone, or in a group, then you should be OK. Can be scary if you went alone but in general, it's very very safe. Just ask any Amsterdam resident. The people are very warm and welcoming.

You have to go there to truly understand it. I couldn't possibly explain in words....I could go on and on....you will love it my friend!

That was a beautiful post. I love Amsterdam so much I seriously am moving there, probably next year sometime. If you want to appreciate the true meaning of liberty and freedom, then by all means, go to Amsterdam and do such. For you see, there is justice in this society. People are treated as rational beings, as they should be, to be able to decide and have choice. Without fear of oppression and tyranny. I reccomend going to a coffee shop called 'De Kroon' It's near dam square. Check out Ummagumma defiantely and buy some 'Mothers Finest' :) It's a safe place, just ignore everyone who tries to sell you coke on the street, everyone. There will be a lot of these people, just ignore them and you'll be fine. I remember smoking a fat spliff on a bench by a river and an old lady was behind me with a camera, everything was kool, i never saw the police when blazing in alleys or anywhere. Might as well use the coffee shops while you can tho. The menus are expansive. Have fun.

ReeferRogue, My decision to join this site, pondering whether I should join this site? Thinking someone may want to search me up as weed is looked down upon big time around here, my family thinks it's the devil's harvest and everything..., so that decision to join this site has been FULLY justified with your single sentence.

That definetly is the best compliment I've received on here. You should change your name to Cannabis King, judging by your posts, your knowledge on weed and having the utmost general respect among fellow tokers.

I sure wouldn't mind toking a spliff with you one day, don't know if you would mind though? Haha, on second thoughts, no please dont.....i'd feel way depressed as your knowledge is way too next level! lol I'd feel bad thinking "I'm a dumb cunt!" if you got going...

And what you said about Amsterdam, too true. It's amazing. Just that feeling of toking and your not actually afraid of anyone hassling you or the cops coming for you. No more of that shit.

Moving there for Real? I want to start a jealousy petition. For real. I am so envious, and I'm sure every toker would be lol. If you don't make it, then definetly one day heh? But I guess you do deserve it though, you have to. I've learnt. Everything you get, you deseve. Good or bad. And Moving to Amsterdam is definetly a good, so you must have done something good.

(PayPal the money to hero@.....) whenever you get the chance hehe

I'm very glad you did decide to join this site because people like you are more then welcome. I owe a lot of my knowledge to this site and the people who cared and shared. Experiance has had a huge impact also. I would love to blaze some ganja with you and talk about life. It is a shame that in such a modern society, 'great' Britian can not provide me with a true sense of freedom. I am no King, i am just a man, a man whos passion lies with cannabis and the equality and liberty for all. Ever since i first graced the promise land of Amsterdam, i have seeked to return. Have you ever just felt you belong somewhere? That's how i feel. It is my goal to move there and start my life by following my own personal persuit of happiness. I believe the world will accept cannabis one day. However, until that day, i feel i must live in a place free of the chains of oppression. That place, my friends, is the Netherlands and is Amsterdam. A peaceful place, where tranquility softly seduces you in to a state of delight.

hey guys,

thanks for all the messages and the wonderful info about amsterdam i wanted. it's a little funny, i'm not going for anything but the weed. i live here in tunisia and i haven't smoked up some holy stuff in three months. oh well. good ol' amsterdam and me sneaking out. i've planned everything. parents don't even know that i'm going to europe lol.

psteve, i've confirmed a dormitory bed at the Hans Brinker hostel at kerkstraat. if you'd like, we could meet up and hit a joint at some cafe. that'd be cool, as a matter of fact, making friends through good ol' cannabis.com

and btw, i'll stay from 2nd nov till the 6th of nov. hope to catch you there.

and thank you all for your messages and info. i shall light a joint in honour of you guys. :D

I will miss you by one day.
But while you are in Kerkstraat, be sure to go in coffeeshop Global Chillage, and The Dolphins.
Since you'll be staying near the Leidseplein, you will find many good shops in the neighborhood.

I lived in Holland for a long time and it is one of the best places I have ever been.
The Dam is a very relaxed city but please don't forget that not all the bars like it if you stroll in smoking a J , keep it in the coffeeshops if you want to avoid problems.
The Rose Buurt (red lights) don't like you photographing the girls (ask permission if you want to) , there are lots of places to visit including The Cannabis Museum The Hash, Marihuana & Hemp Museum (http://www.hashmuseum.com/) or Amsterdam Hotspots - the guide to Amsterdam city (http://www.amsterdamhotspots.nl/redlights.html)

This guide to coffeshops may be of use.

Okay, i would attempt to find a coffeeshop near Dam square that is called De Kroon, if you are lucky enough to find this wonder of a shop, you shall not be disappointed. I would also go to the coffeeshop Ummagumma and buy some Mothers Finest. Try and smoke some bongs, try to find a coffeeshop with a volcano vaporizer. Eat some space cake. The best strain I remember trying were Super Silver Haze, Jack Herer, Blueberry, Crystal, Ak47, Kali Mist, White Widow, Mothers Finest, Shiva, Silver haze... Try some trainwreck, sour diese. Go to the grey area, dreadrock, homegrown fantasy, you'll have good times.

can anyone tell me any rock/metal venues.. or perhaps any coffeeshops with rock/metal ambience? would elevate the buzz for me. thanks

psteve

Rock venues include
'the cave' on prinsengracht.
and 'the Last Waterhole' which has moved and I don't know the new address yet.
Coffeeshops with 'metal' will be hard to find, but Bulldog, The Doors, Pink Floyd, and many others play classic rock.

so... here we are...

november 2nd.. at around 5pm, my plane from milan landed at schiphol airport. i was amazed at how big it was.. anyway, i confidently rushed out to the place where you get train tickets.. i got on for amsterdam centraal station.

now assuming that ALL trains went to amsterdam centraal, i hopped on the first train that my eye caught. it was all very beautiful.. whatever i could see through the window of the train... the announcements were in dutch so didn't understand shit until one of the announcements had "centraal" in em. so i got off at the 'centraal' and it was a little weird as it didn't seem to be the same 'centraal' i had once seen on wikipedia.. so i get off and go out and the building is complete different.. i have no map or anything to tell me where the heck i was...

i later inquired where the bus to 'kirkstraat' would be located.. and the lady at the reception told me that i was in 'utrecht'.. a city not very far from amsterdam. so i went back and this time made sure which trains went to amsterdam centraal, instead of any other centraal (which by now i've learnt that centraal means central).

got on the train to amsterdam centraal without a ticket hahaa. i wouldn't be bothered to purchase another ticket.. i took the risk... and if anything happened, i planned to play dumb... the ride was smooth and i didn't get checked for the ticket. i got off at amsterdam centraal.. and all of a sudden i see this city of beautiful architecture, lights, a light drizzle and music... it all seemed so very surreal to me.. it felt very dreamy... the entire night that night did..

so i took tram #2, as instructed by my hostel.. and i stopped on the fifth stop. took the first right, walked for 3 mins and there you go... Hans Brinker Hostel.. dropped off my luggage and i was out to GET SOME BUZZIN N' LOVIN..

I dont know if this is too personal or not but, I'm saving up for a trip to Amsterdam myself and was wondering what your total spending is gonna be? Including hotel, weed money, food etc. Because I calculated about 3 grand from the east coast of US to the dam. I'm hoping I'm overestimating lol.

Also is Amsterdam tolerant of race? I'm african american and I hate going to places where I don't feel welcome (including in my own country). I don't wanna get stared at everywhere I go with a whole bunch of people that don't want me around....

But you'll be glad to know that Amsterdam is one of the most tolerant cities in the world. Your race will not be an issue*.
*(unfortunately, Muslims have had a bit of a hard time in Holland lately, but there's also a large Muslim community there, so even that would probably not affect your having a great time in Amsterdam!)
